We have changed our MH and no longer have a Sat Dish. We have a built in Wi-Fi but have never streamed anything, I will have to learn.
We are going to France in a few days and with darker nights at this time of year we probably watch tv for a couple of hours in the evening. Any ideas please of how much data we would use. Other that the tv I use Google maps.
Many thanks.

It depends on the quality of the downloads - others more techy than me will answer better, but somewhere between 1to 3Gb per hour for high definition programmes/films. Can be as much as 7Gb per hour if 4k quality

I find you can never have enough.
I struggled for data last year so bought a IQ data sim, 30 GB per month for 3 months.
Thought I'd have plenty so got into streaming BBC sounds while traveling.
I've now used up this months data so have to wait until 1st October.
Now relying on phone data hotspot.

We downloaded a load of rubbish from Netflix to a USB on a tablet.
No data required to watch it
I tried to download but never found it again. Hopefully I have someone coming at the weekend to aim me in the right direction. I have aWe have a smart tv at home, but I’ve never mastered that either.

Same here. I download off iPlayer, netflix etc onto a tablet then watch offline from there. If needed I could stream to a larger TV but haven't bothered as yet.

As I understand Netflix does not allow screen mirroring with a downloaded movie.. have you tried it ?

Hopefully I'm wrong.

Actually Jim, NO.. so you may be right on that one.
Not tried to stream anything as yet, mainly just watch the 10" tablet at bedtime. (y)

Say 3gb per night x 30 nights plus a bit for browsing gets you to roughly 100gb.

We bought a local sim when we landed in France a fortnight ago & we have used 35gig on the iPads & telly in the evenings. IPTV on a Firestick

just tried it with my iPhone and it seems to be blocked..

works for other things like Apple photos and videos ..

We've been casting to a chromecast, and works perfectly.
can you explain how you do it.. not familiar with chrome cast .. Is that downing a movie then watching on TV later ?

We download to the Netfilx app on the iPhone.. but when we try screen mirroring it to the TV , it blocks it ..

Was it reasonably easy to set up? I can manage French better than I can manage setting up a SIM card.

If you are happy with 1990's TV quality - I.E. low definition, then 1Gb per hour of telly is about right. You should be able to set you computer for this quite easily.

We bought 100gb sim from Simcorner £35. We have used it to stream 2hrs per night, read papers etc, watch F1 on Smarters player. Been in France for 2 weeks already used 46gb still have 2 weeks to go so hopefully we will have enough.

We download to the Netflix app, then if the chromecast is connected to the TV, pressing the "square" in the top right will the cast it to the TV, I think mirroring plays the clip on your phone then copies to the TV, whereas casting sends direct to the TV, not sure biw/why it works and mirroring doesn't.

Idmobile - good price and unused data rolls over. 30gb sim £10 a month, but normally start a trip with about 55gb available.

Can you not just use an iPhone to hdmi cable and connect it to your tv? Works for me.

Bookworm, me. No TV in the van, because I probably watch too much TV at home so it makes a nice change.

I haven't mastered the watch it from a tv (yet)
But what I think you can do is download the app of Netflix from Google on your smart tv then that gives you the download ability. Then send all downloads to a USB and Robert should be the brother of your mother (in theory)

We bought the pay as you go sim for £18.95 for 210g, at a Leclerc supermarket. It’s activated at the till.
Just pop it in your router. That simple.
