Hi guys, simple question, how many of us use CB radios? I’m going to buy one for our MX5 when we are out on runs with the MX5 owners club, but as it’s demountable I was wondering about using it in the MoHo when we are travelling around France in late June this year. If you do use CB radio where do you mount the aerial? I’m thinking of getting a magnetic mount for the MX5 boot lid.

Thanks in Advance!

Cheers! Russ

Not cb but did carry a couple of walkie talkies when in company or when our car was being driven driven separate to the Moho.
Like a cb radio you have to be conscious of any laws relating to hands free.

As with all subjects there is a f/b page that may assist you, it’s a bit sleepy though. This probably reflects the lack of interest in cab radio ever since it was legalised by the government way back in 1981.
Back before mobile phones CB radios were such fun, a contact we knew used to fly to America quite often for work, every trip he brought back good spec radios. These we were able to use as a pretty unreliable work communication tool in our cars, but more fun was late night conversations with folk from all over the world from high locations like Dunstable downs.
Once the were legalised, lots of young children got them for birthday or Christmas presents, great fun for the children, but their chatter ruined it for the adult users.

If you do use a mag mount put a thin layer of cloth or similar, between boot and mag. They do scratch after a while. 👍
I used to mag it to the bonnet when static dx'ing usb.

Am missing something but I can't see the point when we all have mobile phones.

Twas like collecting stamps, but swapping qsl's instead.
Depending on skip conditions using very low power and a 1/2 wave antenna speaking to Aus and NZ

Pre mobile phone days.
