Broken most bits now
We tend to get between 1&5 Mbps through our Moho WiFi which is fine for all or surfing and iPlayer, Netflix streaming needs so what do peeps do in their vans that means they need 50+ Mbps

Lots of us 'want' more than we 'need' if we are honest, but stability and guaranteed service are more relevant to me than outright Mbps. Its all down to what you use the internet for, and how many are using it at the same time.

5Mbps is really the minimum to stream HD TV and if you want 4K content then you will need about 25Mbps.

My iPhone and iPad have daily app updates that run to hundreds of MB's frequently, and if Garmin do a map update that can be 1Gb or more. Downloads like that would take a lifetime at slow transfer speeds.

Not sure if HD in the Moho is a thing but no point on our 21" telly. We regularly watch Netflix HD video on a 50" telly in the house through our Moho WiFi and a repeater with only about 1.5Mbps whilst we're also casually surfing the net without any problems.
The Garmin update on our old klanky sat nav is about 8Gb but I just download it overnight although it would only be about an hour o anyway.

Want / need - varies.

5Mbps is fine for streaming Netflix at a basic level, but if you want 4K streaming then you'll be needing a bit more than that....

I typically got 30-40Mbps with my old setup and it was absolutely fine for streaming services and for 'working from van' doing Teams calls etc etc.

The bigger Mbps requirements normally come in if you're uploading a lot of data rather than downloading. You'll typically get about 1/10th U/L to D/L so if you're uploading video files or similar then you'll need a bit more.

My new setup is better quality and more stable and capable of much greater speeds. 1-200Mbps isn't uncommon. I'm currently stuck up in the mountains with the van system brutally ripped out of the van and the antenna indoors and I just got 242Mbps down and 11.3 up on roaming data.

However, I also have something in the region of 14 devices connected and when they're all working then they're all going to be making demands on that resource (currently only 3 devices operational)

Even for my 'needs' 50Mbps is actually more than enough, however I've taken the view that buying slightly better kit now should hopefully mean that I won't be needing to upgrade it anytime soon...

....except that I probably will now that Teltonika have brought out some eSIM routers - but that's 'want' and not 'need'

As long as it streams the main services then it's good enough for me. The majority of the time i can do this via the hotspot on my phone via my incredibly cheap Lebara sim (69p per month currently!)

If I used the capabilities of those speeds whilst roaming I think Tescomobile would tut me for fair usage even though it's Unlimited 😂

Not sure how you are managing that. Netflix think you need more;

I find 1080p HD on the van's 24" TV is nice. 4k would be pointless. But often I can't get enough bandwidth as sites location from mast is too variable for the data to be stable. Realistically if I see the rate is less than 10Mbps I know I need to get TV onto SD setting.

As I can also play about with laptop needing updates and other stuff at least 50Mbps would be good to to avoid making another coffee whilst waiting on downloads.

Too stingy to pay for Starlink, so will maximise the Teltonika and 4x4 Mimo aerial in hope of getting what I can.

Ah!

This is why I use Thee mobile who don't cap your speeds even when roaming abroad on the Unlimited tarriff.

Back in the good old days that came at no extra cost, these days sadly I do pay £5/day for the pleasure but it's still (just about) worth it for me.

It probably fluctuates between 1&3 to be fair but only been a problem when the speed drops to less than 1 when the military jets are buzzing around the sky

😱 My £17.50/month UK & EU roaming sounds even more like a bargain nowadays.

Teltonika and 4x4 MiMo here - with the antenna indoors and still getting just shy of 250Mbps. You should be fine :D
Ah but at Sethorns, New Forest, a couple of weeks ago O2 based phone had nothing, and Three on the Teltonika with only 2x2 Mimo was lucky to get 0.5Mbps. So not so sure :(

I'm always amazed at anyone who can tell the difference between 720,1080,sd,hd or 4K?

Me too. But then I need expensive headphones and speakers for listening to music/TV and others seem happy with built in sound or cheap sound bars.

is that unlimited data dunnah01 ?

Would be interested to know what you use if so....

(I use a LOT of data)
Yes - an old Tescomobile contract on O2. The roaming is for a couple of months before they get tetchy with fair use but others have gone beyond 2 months with no problems. We are in a cold spot at home so 1-5 Mbps is normal. We've had 50+ when touring and 30 odd in the EU

You need to try EE, I also have a teltonica and 2x2 mimo aerial, on 2bars router signal just got 17mbp's now.
Up in the Highlands, where the phone was out of coverage, the router squeezed 5Mbps on 2bar signal. EE has good coverage, very few blind spots.
