How long leaving engine not run

Hi all, beacause of circumstance out van 2019 Burstner 2.3 150 comformatic has not had the engine started since Nov. Sorned in our garage batteries kept up heating on occasionally but have not started engine. Not likely to be used until end of Feb.

I think you should carry on as you are. Running a modern Diesel engine on tickover for any length of time is not good for it apparently.

Yes you are correct that letting a diesel engine run off load is not good practise, it was more about coating the internal parts with oil. If it had not been sorned I wold have given it a run for an hour or so to get it up to temp and dry everything out.

As said... start engine ONLY when you are able to take van out for a GOOD drive.. Sitting idle will do no harm..
Edit to clarify.. when I say sitting idle I mean the van not getting used.. I do not means sitting with the engine idling...
