Hi folks,
I need to get the V5 for our van updated by DVLA, firstly because it has the wrong VIN number on it and secondly to uprate the max weight.
Anyone have any recent experience of turnaround time?
The website suggests 2-4 weeks but I’d like an idea on how realistic that is likely to be.

Just received mine back, about 3 weeks.

Just did a change of address and it was back inside a week. New owner change about 3 months ago took 3 weeks. So I would expect it to be in the timeframe quoted.

My application was received by DVLA on 12th February, the uplate was done on 6th March and I received the new V5 on 10th March. So just under 4 weeks.

Ok, that’s great thanks.
Fingers crossed I get a similarly speedy turnaround 🤞

Just uprated mine took exactly 4 weeks.

Don't do both at the same time you will totally confuse them, I would get the Vin corrected first that should be quite quick.

My V5 had a missing digit on the VIN so I sent it to the DVLA for correction on the 4th December 2024. The corrected V5 was received back by me on18th January 2025 so just over 6 weeks

Cheers

I had exactly the same problem due to dealer error. About 4 weeks delay. Also affected registration with Fiat and ability to take out their extended warranty. 🤞

I would think that they will definitely query the Vin number change & they will want all sorts of proof that it is incorrect. You would best sending a photo of the windscreen vin if at all possible also showing the front number plate along with another photo of the number stamped in to the chassis or the chassis door pillar.
Changing a VIN number will not be a easy process usually as they will want to know how it got registered incorrectly? If it was done from new by dealer then they usually want the dealer to confirm it .

I’m hoping it won’t be too much of an issue. The vin plates on the van, the etched security number on the windscreen and the original manufacturer paperwork all have the matching (correct) vin number.
The error on the V5 is only in one digit where a 7 has been mis-typed as a Y.
I’ve got my fingers crossed that the photos of all of the above that I’ve sent in will be enough…🤞

I posted, under the heading ,”Nightmare with DVLA” about my present experience.

Wanting to up rate our motorhome I submitted an application, together with all the correct documents. Now, over six weeks later I am informed that my application is “in progress”.

The major problem is that we are due to go to Spain this coming weekend and need the V5.

To say that we have been met with ineptitude and disinterest all the way is an understatement. We are faced with travelling illegally because they cannot complete a task that was a simple tick box exercise. Part of the problem appears to be WFH.

For the full details see my post referred to above.
