As the title says . I dont have one to dispose of but will in the future which is what made me think whats the situation today

I took one to the local waste place but I believe that you may get cash if you go to a scrapyard or whatever they are called now. I still have the last two in the garage as they are handy for testing things or using them to use a 12v air compressor for tyres.

Hook it up to a s/h solar panel and use it for garden illumination? you could use it as part of your project ??

The same place as laptop batteries... wherever that should be.

Our local scrappy is very particular on what he takes (basically lead acid only) as he once sent a lorry load down to the recycler's and there were a couple of lithium batteries in amongst the load, which caused big problems for the recycler. I think he said it had cost him quite a bit of money to put things right ?

Perhaps by the time that you do have one to dispose of the "circular economy' (as far as recycling lithium batteries is concerned) will have kicked in. Makes more sense than continuing to pillage the planet for lithium, ironically in the name of "saving the planet". Because we're so good at recycling the petrol and diesel so we don't have to get more out of the ground?

Our local Sainsburys and Tesco have recycling boxes for printer cartridges and batteries, I leave them by the side if they don't fit in the box. (y)

same here in spain. anything other than lead acid the scrap yards won't touch.fortunately we have council recycling facilities that take all & any type of battery & use bins for different types.

You have to be a bit careful here, there was a story in the press recently about a women took some cloths to a recycling point, but it was full so she left the box of good cloths next to the 'bin'.

As a result. the moronic local council (can't remember the name) sent her a fine for fly tipping.

Just put it in the garden on Nov 5, and put a match to it .... woooooshh bang

Local tip takes batteries including leisure batteries. I would tell them if it was a lithium leisure battery. And if they didn’t take it they would know which part of the recycling service did take it.
incidentally b & q take batteries like those that power drills etc

Won't be very interesting. Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries don't burn very well.
indeed...

but the thread title said "household lithium " .. laptop batteries etc ..

in any case, it was just a joke.. not a serious proposition..

As it was also referring to lithium leisure batteries, I assumed household meant a household battery that people are adding to their household solar setups.

I imagine an authorised EV (Electric Vehicle) dismantler could deal with lithium batteries.

It might be they have a "part " that isn't covered like we do here in our spanish region. Everything here can be recycled apart from one item. Which is the container that you deposit used car oil in the recycling container. You have to take it home again as there is no facility anywhere that recycles containers that have had car oil in🤷‍♂️

If you google "lithium battery recycling" you get a company that suggests you ask for a quote,,, sounds expensive to me

I can second that story.
At our local scrap yard the owner told me of two blokes who turned up with several scrap batteries.
They put them all on the big plate scales, got their piece of paper with the weight on and went to the office and got paid (into a bank)
It was only after they'd left when it was discovered that amongst the batteries were a couple of lithium.
The owner said it cost him to dispose of them

You could just leave it outside and it would soon disappear then it’s someone else’s problem….:imoutahere:

Just fly tip them like lots of other people seem to do with old stuff
