How can I tell if my vehicle has a smart alternator
How can I tell if my vehicle has a smart alternator - article by 12 Volt Planet. Split charging; you might have seen the phrase Smart Alternator or Euro5/6 engine but what is a Smart Alternator and how can you tell if you have one?

but you can check by watchng the voltage on the battery rise and fall with a multimeter or even with one of these

Vehicles with smart alternators often have Automatic start / stop.
If you look at the negative terminal of the starter battery, on non smart alternator vehicles the connection is a simple terminal clamp onto the battery post., on smart alternator equipment vehicles, the negative battery terminal is connected to an electronic shunt ( black box that counts coulumbs and informs the ECU of the battery state of charge.
Smart alternator equipped vehicles 12v supply fluctuates depending on engine load and SOC etc.
