Help with House Insurance, buildings and contents company recommendations.

Just had our house and contents renewal from CMC (Devitt) with a significant increase, nearly doubled! £288 to £477. Company is LV Broker Rainbow Household Insurance Policy.

Everything standard for 4 bed, apart from the motor-homers cover which the CMC covers up to 90 days absent (although we are only away for up to 45 days at a time) plus we have added an electric bike.

Recommendations appreciated. Thanks Rod

Saga always comes good for me, high level of cover for the cost and can be fixed for three years.

We are with Aviva. .Every couple of years or so I check but have never found a better deal.

Try going to LV= directly they always seem to be the lowest for us and give 60 days vacant as standard

Have you used some comparison site searches. Every year I just do the lot. confused.com comparethemarket.com moneysupermarket.com uswitch.com etc

Once you have inputted you details it will remember you for future years so doesn't take long after the first time.

We're with AXA, 60 days away & bike cover

When you do comparisons first go to Topcashback or Quidco as you could get cashback via them, I got £40 back for our car insurance.

Don't know about the price comparison as I am with the NFU for everything, which includes three cars, motorhome, public liability on the farm and a dozen tractors.
But one thing you get with home insurance is travel insurance for the whole family who live in the house at very reasonable rates, can't just recollect how much but I think for us it was fifty quid , that's not the house insurance, just the extra for travel which we had been paying over £300 just for travel for the two of us.

Must be an age thing. When I saw this I thought we were talking skiffle groups

Marks & Spencer via Aviva have an excellent policy giving up to 90 days unoccupancy. Probably not the cheapest but very comprehensive and a very simple application process.
Comfort do a home policy again via Aviva. It used to give 90 days unoccupancy but has recently been reduced to 60 which is why we moved to M & S.

Thanks everybody, just back from holiday. Over the next couple of days I will contact your suggestions for quotes and let you know.

we had M&S, now with Tesco.

Read the small print for the checks that insurers insist be carried out during unoccupancy. You might need helpful relatives or neighbours.

Gone with LV via Comparethemarket. 60 days unoccupancy, higher excess at £350 but 180 cheaper than CMC renewal with LV.

We are with C&MC, and just renewed with a bit of an increase from last year not a hike like yours
