Who do people insure with if they go away for more than 60 days( the usual maxium unoccupied property cover) ?

I am sure many of you more intrepid travellers go away for over 2 months so what do you do for cover?

Lv 90 days just got to turn water off if over 60 .

Was also told you need to leave the heating on or drained down and someone needs to inspect the property weekly.
Do that anyway, my son lives 5 miles away and heating thermostat is set for 12degrees though it doesn’t get to that in winter with the heating off. I turn the main water stop tap off if we are away for more than a few days.

When we were looking to do this there were very few and I think they are the ones mentioned already.

What you need to look into is what reduction in cover you have if it's over 60 days. Our insurer was able to extend it to 90 days for very small cost but we were then not covered for vandalism etc, we declined to extend.

I did a thread about it if you want to have a shuftie.

We are insured with LV. Their definition of "unoccupied" is "Not lived in by you or a member of your family for more than 60 days in a row ....... By lived in we mean staying in and sleeping overnight for at least 2 nights in a row each week"

If you are away for more than 60 days you have to notify them in advance and they may agree to cover you, at a cost of course. If you don't notify them you will lose your cover for water leaks, theft, vandalism and accidental damage.

It is very cheap to extend the cover it was around £10. It was the added restrictions that were burdensome.

Not for us I guess. I always leave the heating set on low and can probably get somebody to pop in weekly. Also leave electricity on to run the alarm, cameras and timed lights as well as the wifi so that I can see what is happening.
