Hotmail abroad

I have hotmail on an iPhone 11, also have yahoo and gmail. This September in Spain literally every time I turned email on there was a Hotmail notification to the effect of ‘unusual activity on your account possibly due to changed location or device, please confirm that it is you or you will be locked out of your account ’. It became extremely annoying. Didn’t happen on the other accounts or wife’s iCloud email.
Trying to get Hotmail back onto my iPad on return home was also a trial, they being very keen for me to take windows 11.
Is there some settings I may have got wrong, or is there incompatibility between Hotmail and iOS? Has anyone else experienced this?

It's a safety security thing combined with a privacy thing. Your account was being accessed from an unexpected location. And Apple is probably blocking cookies and IDs to help with privacy. But that makes it look like you're logging on with a new device from a different location each time. Which rings alarm bells, as that's exactly what a hacker would appear to do.

Get yourself a VPN that will stop any of that if it’s a good one I use Nord which is excellent
