when I put the hot water only on the combi boiler fires up for about 4 minutes then goes of I open the hot water tap and no hot water . But I can get hot water when I put the heating on as well can any one help me

A bit more info may help eg type of system eg Truma etc.

Most systems will heat up a tank of water rather than heating it on demand. If the heating is on it will probably heat the tank of water at same time. Some more info will help. My boiler ‘fires’ up on gas for a few mins then you can hardly hear the boiler running. Takes 30 mins to heat full tank.

When using a Combi on hot water only they tend to fire up for a few minutes then they turn down to a very low level so often can't hear it.

It needs about 40 min to get up to temperature.

If it is a gas & electric model try just on gas as it will take over an hour on electric.

So……I assume you are running on gas and set to heat hot water and you have water in tank and got flow of water with no air locks etc. When it is switched in are you getting a flame symbol on display to say water is heating. I imagine you have a ten litre tank of water so will take 30mins ish to heat. Can you feel heat coming out of the exhaust?

Yes everything as you say the only thing is the boiler will run for about 4 minutes then switches of but if I put the heating on everything is great but just thinking about getting hot water in the summer without having to put the heating on as well

As Stoosal

When the Combi has cut in to heat the water and then cut out again, (as you think), check the gas exhaust outlet to see if it is, in fact, running quietly. In order to avoid overheating the burner it is possible that the burner operates, switches off, then on again at intervals.

Switch it onto gas and keep checking the exhaust outlet to see if the above is happening.

As I said earlier are you leaving it on long enough for the water to heat up?

Also don't use the "ECO" setting its useless it heats the water to 40° but doesn't back on until it drops below 27°.
