We always take a 2 pin hook up adaptor for France, just in case, but never having taken the moho to Spain before just wondered if I needed a particular one there?

Thanks, that's the one we take for France so hopefully it'll be good for Spain.

Domestic sockets in Spain are not the same as in France, but look very similar. However almost all appliances have a plug which is compatible with both types of socket. So the 2-pin hookup adaptor you have is almost certainly going to be compatible with sockets in France, Spain, Germany and the rest of the nearest continental countries. Not Denmark, Switzerland and Italy.

However the items that do not have compatible plugs are things like adaptors and 4-way extension cables. Your adaptor might just fall into that category, so it's worth a quick check. It's easy to check if you know what you are looking for.

The French socket has a reversed earth pin, so the plug needs a hole to take that pin.

The Spanish socket has no reversed earth pin, but has two sliding earthing contacts top and bottom, so the plug has two sliding metal contacts top and bottom also.

The compatible plug has the hole to take the reversed earth pin, and also the two sliding metal contacts top and bottom.

A handy explanation thanks! I've travelled to France and Spain lots of times but didn't quite realise those differences so clearly - now enlightened. ;) (y)

At least one site in Spain has 32A hookup sockets. I have never stayed there but made up a short lead 32A plug to 16A socket just in case.

I have an adaptor, bought from a camping shop at a dealer, that looks like the black one above. I have used it many times throughout Europe over past 12 years and on some tours in Spain had to use it more than not over 2 months, so take one for sure.
