What is your favourite way to be 110% sure of not driving off with the electric hook-up still connected?

I used to always route the wire through the steering wheel but in a few places recently it's not been long enough so use a piece of string tied to the plug & again looped through the wheel. Not elegant!!!

Any other suggestions please?

My EBK buzzes really loud of I start the engine with the hookup plugged in. It's saved me at least once.

But failed me when I wanted to put the bike on the rack at home and needed to roll it forward a metre, so I just let the handbrake off. Wire went under the wheel and yanked out the socket. Tripped the house electrics. 😬

I drop the drivers sun visor as soon as we park up. On the back of it is a check list (which I totally ignore) but when I come to drive off again the downward sun visor jogs my memory to go and check every thing before we leave.
Except that one time we left the EHU still attached when we left a site. I got an ear full from the Navigation, Catering and Soft Furnishings Manager as she was using her hair drier at the time and to make matters worse the sods turned off all the site power too😉.

do you keep the lead in a bag when storing it - you could put the bag on the dashboard / steering wheel.

I have fitted my hook up cable onto a bright orange reel. When hooking up I leave the reel next to the van by the connection point, that's clearly visible in the driver side mirror so i hope i would spot it in a mirror check before moving even if i had forgotten it when packing up (so far so good!)

ps. I do completely unwind the cable from the reel every time regardless of how much cable required!

Yeah, that didn't cross my mind when I was just rolling forward a bit on my own drive.
Ah now that’s another story and a risk for me other than the fact that the hook up enters close to the hab door which we always use.

That's so brilliant in it's simplicity - got to be the one for me! ☺
In fact so good I wish I'd thought of it myself and will def be my practice from now on. Thank you!
(Just have to make a note of your name in case it ever doesn't work!! 😁)

My socket is inside the drivers door so it's there as you get in.
How does that work then ? Do you have to leave the driver’s door/window open for the lead?

We have a check list, we usually remember to use it but it has happened that each has thought the other has done it oops, John had to stop me, he was in the car, he overtook me and pulled onto a layby, the skylight in the bathroom hadn't been closed, now as i cant reach it who was to blame 🤣

Velcro strap on steering wheel, used to coil up the EHU lead when it's put away so strap on wheel means the EHU lead must be out somewhere.

In a similar vein - I’ve taken to wrapping a red Velcro cable tie around the top of the steering wheel whenever stopping for the first couple of days after disembarking from the ferry. Removing it gets me into the habit of checking I leave on the right side of the road. After seeing a mate of mine on his Fireblade nearly do a head-on into a Renault 4 Gendarmerie van I’m super cautious about it.

Walk round, touching every item.
I start in the khazi checking the roof vent mirrors locked cupboard door, then side bed window, wardrobe for, roof vent, overhead lockers, other wardrobe door side window, shower roof vent, kitchen window, overhead lockers, lounge roof, cab roof then out the hab door. Strong slam, step up, check awning, then electric flap, gas flap, side bed window, garage door, round to the back and bike rack, side bed window, other garage door, gas locker, kitchen window, grey water bucket, water flap, drivers mirror, round the front bonnet down, no corks under wiper blade arms, passenger mirror, quick butchers for dog toys / anything else then after final eyeball jobs a good 'un.

I, too, do the walk-round before driving off.

Unfortunately that doesn’t help when I have forgotten to close a roof vent 😂
That’s one I have forgotten but the Hymer roof vent isn’t hinged at one end but lifts parallel so no risk of damage but just a bit of wind noise.

It happened last when driving on my own up the A303, I thought well its happened now I aint stopping til I get home, then a salt & pepper grinder rolled under my clutch foot.
