Hi all, will be going down to Pompey for the tour on board (middle of March) , would very much like to combine this with a stayover for one possibly two nights, where is the best place to stay with restaurant/pub nearby please.

Using family anecdotes, the internet and the RN archives I've found records that my G/Grandad was on Victory at Trafalgar as Master of the Foretop. In a list of the Trafalgar crew and payments it was recorded that he was paid a Trafalgar 'win bonus' of 13/6d which seems to have been equivalent to a month's pay.
I've taken my own and others' youngsters on there a time or two and they were highly amused when one guide mentioned the 'Snitch stitch' and pointed out the balls on a brass monkey. (y)

Another vote for Port Solent, just ring the carpark guy before you arrive.

We last stayed in the area at Fishery Creek Hayling Island but had car on tow but handy for waterfront walk to pub and chippy etc.
