Highway robbery in Laugharne. Surely this can't be right

Good afternoon,

The good news is that France has dropped pre departure testing, so things can only get better
So the world reopens. Can't wait for 24th June.

We are going for 90 days of freedom. Imagine if that price became the standard. £2700 just to park no services

My total holiday cost won't be that much and we have a month booked on a 4star site in that

These places that have taken the proverbial ..... with prices during covid hopefully people will not forget. In the meantime I'll go to places like Hawick that did the right things. I'll spend my Money there thanks

Wales does seem to have a real problem with motorhomes. Loads of car parks up here in north wales have height barriers set at around 2 metres. just what their problem is i can't seem to find out
Powys actively welcomes us , as long as you leave no trace, and do not over stay your welcome , plenty of 'free overnighting' in Wales that is until someone puts it on the internet and suddenly there loads of vans and some setting up to stay long term.
Perhaps a clue on height barriers is the name "car park", not van park, lorry park or motorhome park.

Some may see that as a bit harsh on motorhomers. Why is it that, just because our interests are in motorhomes it seems there is upset that we can't just go anywhere and everywhere, when perhaps those who created a facility didn't put it there for motorhome use?
I am thinking about getting run flat tyres and taking the satellite disc off the top Van may just be under then 🤔

Doesn't really matter what we on here think, it's up to the people who live there to decide who or what they want,
There's plenty more places to go especially if France is now back on the agenda.

Irish travellers along the A55 corridor heading to and from the ferry port.

Funny how it can be miss-interpreted.
I say the hourly charge is the same for all vehicles....UNLESS.....you want overnight motorhome PARKING then it's £30 for a full 24hrs.
Does the 24hrs allow sleeping or just parking.....there's a world of difference

Because the harshness seems to be very local to UK countries compared with our European neighbours.

They should not have left it open to misinterpretation - it should have been made clear in the first place.

If the car park is 'policed' by a private company you can bet it will be (mis)interpreted in their favour in terms of their % of fines.

Using your argument, motorbikes & small vans would not be allowed on "car parks" either.

The problem with the proliferation of height barriers is that motorhomes end up like the Flying Dutchman, endlessly seeking a haven. Keeping us out of car parks may mean that we will end up somewhere even less to their liking.

I'm just wondering what the fine would be if it's £30 a night. Might it be worth FLTing it by arriving late and leaving early, if it's only (!!) £60. It happens alot in France when it's only 5 or10 euros. Not for me though, I like to rest and take it easy. Always last off site!

Ironic really - on a forum where "travellers" are routinely vilified there's more than a few people getting upset by the notion that their chosen lifestyle is not welcome somewhere . . . . hey ho.

You didn't really need to say this, did you? It was a nice discussion about the cost of parking a motorhome.
Hey ho.

I wouldn't pay £30 for a car park. I'd find a proper campsite and pitch up there. Probably about £30 and you can empty the dungbox and do grey and white water. Wilding is a bit overrated, when you are faced with an impenetrable forest of height restrictions!

Its a good way to keep Motorhomes out. Clearly they are not wanted, hence the price and also very effective me thinks.
Spain and Portugal should follow...

And what about van conversions that DVLA will only accept as 'Vans with windows'?
They used to accept them as Motor Caravans, until the importers started sticking a single roll up mattress and 5lt water Container in a Newish Subaru Impreza WRX and calling it a Camper...and putting a disable hand grip on the steering wheel of an EVO VIII and calling it a disability vehicle...

I don't think the people on here leave their shit all over the places they stay at..

With forum membership numbers into the 80,000s, I am not sure that you can say that with any certainty but I think it is a case of point and missed here . . . .

Something slightly different I go to a place in Wales on the coast on my motorbike and they have taken a small patch on the car park that a car can’t get into anyway and decided to change £5 a bike to park. Most parks are free for bikes as there’s no where to put the ticket.
As for the Motorhome that’s why Europe wins PLEASE PARK AND SPEND MONEY IN OUR TOWNS are we really that thick in the UK to to miss out on this great idea

I live just down the road from Laugharne and I can tell you they are very anti motorhomes. We have stopped over a few times in the winter by the estuary and there have been a few knocks on the door and scowls.

Funny thing is that many of the so called locals are incomers.

Shame. It is a lovely town with great walks.

Good post :)

Funny enough we are in the process of buying a house in the countryside and when viewing the various house options we always ensure that the house is located in an area which can't be infiltrated by motorhomes or campers.

The last thing we want is to spend a whole chunk of money on a new home with lovely views and then have it spoiled by white tupperware boxes.

Classic case of Nimbyism, Mine be OK then as its Silver (y)

Just keep away from these places with greedy and maybe stupid people, who must be jealous of us owning expensive motorhomes, Plenty of parking in France

......who must be jealous of us owning expensive motorhomes.

I'm not sure it has anything to do with jealousy TBH but more to do with them protecting the peace and tranquillity of the area in which they live.

most people who do not want/own one have no idea how much they cost and don't care, all they see are vehicles that look to them like builders vans, removal vans with windows , mini buses and in some cases buses , many people have hobbies that are expensive to take part in look at serious cyclists who pay 1000's for their bikes are people accused of being jealous if they moan about 100'sof them parking in a particular location, no. motor bikes when they do silly things and have loud exhaust are people accused of being jealous of their chosen hobby, a campervan/motorhome is a pride and joy to some others just a bl@@dy eyesore to others

Mine is much better quality than tupperware.

Who wants to take their MH for many years to a nice coastal area to find that this year some developer has erected blocks of flats?
