Friend of the family is selling a 2003 Trigano Tribute in very good nick, and we are considering it as a first van. We figure that if we dont like the life then we could probably sell it on for a good price.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello and to ask one question (for now): I am a golfer and am wondering if golf clubs, on the whole, are happy to have MHs turning up in their carparks? I wont be wanting to sleep in them but am certainly keen on getting to as many clubs as possible in some far-flung spots. Any other golfers on here? Can you get clubs and a spouse and a dog in your smallish van?!?

I live on (or in, if you prefer) Anglesey

Interesting question. We have lived close to a golf club for over 30 years and I have never seen a motorhome or camper van in the car park. Doesn’t mean they don’t allow them but a friend has played there and says that they are not exactly inclusive. Maybe it would spoil their image?

Honiton GC in Devon was one time a CL for one of the Clubs.
Don't know if it still is.

Ah I've just spotted there is a post about this very subject lower down!

I’d be quite happy to turn up on a Fordson Major to play golf, it’s a means of transport innit😂

A small camper should be fine, after all they're not that much bigger than a big car like a 4 x 4

We turn up at golf clubs here and in Spain with our Ducato conversion. I never even contemplated that they would not be allowed when playing, obviously overnight a bit different but I know some do, there was a recent thread….
We used ours a lot during covid, before vaccinations, as a safe way to not go in club house, use our own loo, pay online etc.
As for storage, we travelled to Spain with two sets under the rear bed where we normally keep 2 Brompton bikes and hired buggies.
In uk we just put clubs inside main van on the beds but the electric trollies are a bit cumbersome on the floor, could not overnight with them would have to just take clubs and hire trollies or buggies. Clubs can go across cab footwell at night.

I have visited a good few clubs for playing in my mh.
One being the belfry for 3 nights on a huge car park down the bottom end.

Although I didnt stay in the van but in the hotel.
On the last night my son went out with a group and returned very late. Stayed in the van instead of disturbing me in the room. Mentioned to security at reception morning after who said fine

Hi most clubs in UK you would need permission as the carparks would be full on medal days. Open days would be again by agreement. In Spain I and a number of Swedes take our MHs to the course and they seem OK but parking is on the supply road and not in car park. Most leave to stay over at their 3 month+ stays at camp sites. Hook up for their AC too
I carry clubs in mine when in Spain or if playing opens in UK summer. Trust this helps

There will be enough room in golf club car parks Monday to Friday but I wouldn't try on weekends we had a few commercial vans at our club and there seem room for them

You can always find room for the clubs, just chuck out the things you don't need from garage, table chairs sunscreen etc.
Several clubs will welcome you just ring in advance similar to a pub stop.

If golf clubs are toffee nosed enough to worry about what sort of vehicle people arrive in ( parking space permitting) I can see why it's waning in popularity.

Imo it maybe a case that some of the courses don't want FLT just turning up late and then leaving any litter or waste.
I've seen several that actually encourage you to stay.

Have had no problem at any of the courses we have gone to in the motorhome, John's club doesn't have a huge carpark, but we would still manage. They would allow members to stay overnight if they have attended a club function.
It has changed over the years, when we first met I was not allowed in as 1. Not a member and 2. Not married to a member.
20+ years later I am welcomed although 1&2 still apply.

I've visited golf clubs in all parts of the UK over 30+ years and never had a single query or problem, our motorhomes have been from 7mtr to 8mtrs over this period. Some of the best and most reasonable lunches we've had have been in golf clubs.

There are a limited number of so called Toffee Nosed clubs in the U.K. compared to the number out there,in fact the pastime/sport has dumbed down in recent years sadly. The behaviour and dress code has to be seen to be believed on occasion.

It’s no longer exclusive and is at a reasonable cost.
