Hi 1and all planing to fit a second battery any tips

It would help if you said what van you have and what the current battery is.
I if a standard lead acid, if the present battery is more than a year old best replace with 2 new ones.
If a Gel you can get away with if the current one is 2 or 3 years old providing its in good condition.

Basics are batteries should be similar size and age and same type.
If you have just an ordinary wet acid battery then slot another one next to it and join POS to POS and neg to neg.

Can you fit the second battery right next to the existing one, or is it some distance away? Use wire that's about the same thickness as the existing wires. Thicker is better but more expensive.

To optimise the setup, connect the load/charging wires to different batteries, for example the negative connecting wires to one battery, and the positive connecting wires to the other battery. This equalises the load on each battery. But the setup will still work OK if you can't do this.

I fitted two new Exide 80ah gel batteries last week. The hardest part was getting the drivers seat out due to both its weight and a problematic seat stop bolt.
We ended up using adjustable grips with an old piece of rubber around the jaws, worked a treat.
I managed to reposition the old mppt and it was straightforward to change all the settings to gel. In total it took about 3 hours to do the job.

why a second battery? just replace the original with a lithium battery - half the weight but twice the power --- at a fair old cost though, but if you intend keeping it, its not such a large amount for the benefits you can get
