Hello all,
I'll be importing my older B584 from France next month. Most ducks are in a row (hiring a import specialist for paperwork), but I'm looking for a recommendation for a garage anywhere in the east of England really, that could guide and speed me through getting it MOT'd. I think the headlamps on this model are swappable, and I understand the speedo doesn't need to be changed for the MOT (only if the van needs an IVA apparently, and mine is too old for that). What I'm not certain about is the fog light requirement and if I need to source parts, or they just swap it all around?
Can anyone reassure/recommend?
Thanks!!
Jacquie

Does it have reversing and fog light fitted that can be switched sides? Other wise yes it will need a fog lamp fitted.

When I imported from Japan an internet search raised loads of helpful agents to get it road legal and registered for you.

Best of luck.

Hi Jacquie

I use Top Gear in Letchworth (see link below) and have done for the past 3 years. Really nice chaps and helped fix a slight blow on my exhaust this year to get my Bessacarr through its MOT. Worth giving them a call, I’m sure they will be able to help.
Headlights would need swapping, Would need a rear fog light.
Regards
Darren

I just fired it up and by the looks of it, it should be switchable! Thanks for the tip - will do a general internet search but was hoping for some personal recommendations from members. It should all be a piece of cake (famous last words!).

Your headlamps are the Hella Classic, you just need to loosen the 3 screws on the back and rotate them to the flat dipping position.
I thought most Hymers had a fog light on both sides if not you should be able to swap the fog and reversing light over. Alternatively you can disable the LHS foglight and fit a central one.
As you say I think you are right you only need an MOT for an older vehicle so the KPH speedo is OK. After getting my van inspected (I've only imported new vehicles) I put the KPH dial back in its passed it's 2 MOT's.
I take it that it is your personal vehicle in France, if not you will have to pay 20% VAT.
Even if no VAT due you will have to inform HMRC and get a NOVA reference before you can register it.

Thank you very much Lenny!
Yes, I remember reading something about those particular headlights - just wasn't certain mine were the same! Thank you for confirming - more very good news.
The van is indeed mine so no duty or VAT. Just to take a bit off my plate, I will have My Car Imports look after NOVA, plates and registration etc. Just sourced a decent insurance quote today - so pleased! Just need to prep it for its MOT, so all this is helpful!!

I had my 2001 B584 cam belt done here
and that was £246 18 months ago.
The headlights are adjustable, I loosened three screws (green arrows) and then only tighten the top screw, so when we go abroad ,it’s only on screw that needs undoing.

Blimey - £246!!! I paid double that for my Murvi cambelt over 10 years ago. I'll be checking them out - thanks!!
And fab info and pic re: lights.
Thank you for going to the trouble to post it!
