Hi guys n gals hoping someone can help off on a jolly north soon so this is fairly urgent 😳
At the Malvern show last week and on last day my external hatch on the loo played up, got it emptied then unable to lock it, put a bit of lube on and it locked 🔒 then tried to unlock but . . , 🤬 won’t open tried the usual WD, tweaking the key a bit of force but no go.
Anyone have any tips on getting it moving I have barrel removal key but lock needs to be in open position to remove it can’t even knock the pins out of door coz there recessed behind door facia.
Would like to repair without having to destroy the hatch.
ps van is a 2003 Hymer but expect there all a bit similar.
Regards as ever The Ice Man.

Try a very thin plastic card pushed in through the gap over where the lock is it may free it or a length of piano wire either side of the hatch and slowly pull it down to try and push the lock keeper open . If desperate a screw into the keyhole and try pulling the lock barrel that way or as a last resort drill out the barrel, it will destroy the lock obviously

Never felt the need to lock ours, not sure if someone would want to nick a full cassette, but then I suppose the hassle of having to find a replacement whilst away would be considerable.

If you do get it open clean the lock to get rid of any trace of the WD 40,terrible stuff for locks, then use a graphite or silicon spray.
Further to your good advise may I suggest you wash the lock in petrol to clean it, let dry, then as you say 👍

Thanks for the advice gents got some options to try, I knew you guys would be qwik off the mark with ideas thanks again always a pleasure 👍👍👍

Can you remember if you have the metal type where it pivots to allow it to open or the plastic one similar to how a Yale lock opens. If it is the plastic type two knifes will gently ease it back by using one then the other pushing on the door to take the pressure off. If it’s the metal twist type that will not work. If the metal push the key fully home then withdraw it gently whilst trying to turn it and bang on the door near the lock.

I can't see many people going around trying loo flaps to see if they're locked. Maybe a dymo "POO" label on the outside would deter anyone investigating!

Ours can stick even when unlocked. There are two latches, we need to push both hard at the same time, then pull the door open. Now never lock it.

When I got my first Moho on the handover I was told people do nock them, so keep it locked. I always have so I don't know if it's correct 😀

Maybe leave it unlocked but smear some marmite on the handle!

Maybe one of these (although true, it might get you into trouble!)

Success guys took the front chrome cover off the lock face and the plastic shield was split in two, took it and it’s two tiny springs out and hey presto it’s back working fine locked and unlocked multiple times all good took the barrel out cleaned it all down, no sign of wear but got rid of all the WD and applied with silicone grease, repeated on all the locks on van hopefully a permanent fix.
Thanks again for your advice much appreciated.

We’ve been on a few GB motorhome tours and when we were in Turkey last year there was a couple who always travel with a spare cassette. It had come in handy on a previous tour as someone had their cassette stollen. It had not been empty!

I’m often tempted by a spare but in a PVC storage is limited.

Glad you got your door sorted.

Isn't there a bracket you can put under the back corner of a ducato to carry a spare?

That’s interesting. I’ll look into it Thankyou. Mindyou were thinking of getting one of those fancy swing out bike racks after our tour so that may put paid to that! We’ve had towbars with the Atera Strada DL3 on the last 2 vans but thought we might go really mad with this one!

Our La Strada Regent L (has there ever been a more carefully designed motorhome?) has the cassette inside the rear doors.
I am in awe of anyone so desperate that they would steal someone else's poo holder..

Fiamma used to do a 'Porta Kassette Toilet Tank Container' which screwed up under the floor and cost around £160, without the spare cassette. Unfortunately they appear to have been discontinued and, although a couple of sellers still list them, they have no stock and no idea if or when they might be available.

Not surprised they stopped selling them at that price!

ive just watched a youtube of someone fitting the 'container' and it looks quite over engineered, for what is basically a box.

has anyone actually made their own underslung carrier or am i off to the land of self design .... LOL
as we dont need or want to carry it at all times, i am a bit loath to take up locker space, but carrying it underneath might mean we carry it with us at all times, with little inconvenience (pun intended)

i am thinking a waterproof material bag (to protect the seals etc, not to stop spills) and a couple of brackets to hold a tray under the chassis could work and the cassette secured on four sides, with one side 'removable' ... i suppose a plastic container secured to stop if falling off the try might also be an option. Of course access to the tray would need to be reasonable, but i dont see it being used that often, that it becomes a hindrance. A sliding drawer/tray fixed through the side skirt would be brilliant but not sure how achievable ..

though if anyone has actually designed their own and is happy to share, even better

PS as my post isnt reflective of the OP, i will also start a new thread ...
