I’ve just received a message from a friend in Italy, his fly screen has lost its tension and wondered if that’s something he can fix himself or needs to go to dealer.

On my Bailey ( previous motorhome ) when the screen went the same way I had it repaired and then had the rats tails installed . Never used the screen again , they are made of cheese and NOT fit for purpose.

The Hartal Flyscreen can be repaired but it takes a few hours (4hrs ish) a good flat surface and a few tools and kite string.
In total from memory the parts cost is about £40 .

I have re-strung three of these in the past Gerry and it's not a job I would tackle while on the road, as the screen frame will have to come out of the van and be worked on on a flat surface. A forum search for Hartal flyscreen will bring up some info on re-stringing them.

I would look to fitting the cats tales type curtain something like this as a temporary measure for now.

not long enough
Ours hadn’t broken but always seems like it will next time it used especially with grandsons involved

We have just bought these, friction fit, properly designed to just push in

Not to everyone’s taste but far less likely to break , although our 3yo grandson did pull them down first time he saw them 🤔😁

We will remove them over winter I think as main function is fly deterrent

Repaired two of them in the past. Both mine needed rivets drilling out to take the frame apart. As others have said flat surface required, Kevlar kite string and bootlace ferrules for crimping. In my opinion it is a fiddly job and best left until getting home.
