Help please!

My daughter and family are away in our Chausson motorhome. It has 2 drop down beds.
Last night the rear bed would not operate - but the front was ok. Each bed is operated separately by its own rocker switch but there is a key operated master switch at the front which can switch off both beds - to avoid kids etc pressing the individual bed rocker switches and lowering the beds when they shouldn’t.

Last night via the phone to my son in law, all fuses etc were checked and no luck! Decided to try turning off/on the master key which controls both beds and the rear bed then lowered. This morning it will not go back up and the front bed is the same. Tried all the obvious things again including the master switch - but no joy.

It is possible to wind both beds up manually but the rear one is near impossible to access. Unless I can resolve it via phone they will have to drive home. Fortunately the vehicle can still be driven.

Any ideas/advice would be welcome now!

Jim

If operating the master key helped to some extent before then I would suspect there was a connection issue with the wiring. Might be worth giving the key a good wiggle on and off a few times to see if that helps?

Thanks!
In desperation we unplugged the 230 supply to the motorhome and reconnected. Bingo - both beds working!
Given that beds are on 12v and battery condition indicator showed hab battery at full I don’t understand this.

Won’t be an issue until bedtime again tonight when beds come back down.

We have a Chausson-check the limit switch which stops the bed at the highest level.

They get sticky which means the bed lowers but may not go back.

It's a black switch covered in rubber-give it gentle pull downwards if stuck.

A new switch costs around £30 & is easy to swap out.

Hope this helps

The reason the bottom limit switch jams is because the webbing straps stretch slightly when you get into bed jamming the switch. Once the bed is lowered, always raise it back up a couple of cm to avoid this.

Thanks for that folks - will pass it on to my son in law now!

However, given that both beds are being affected - it would seem too much of a coincidence that your suggested problem is affecting both beds at the same time.

OK, another thing to check is the connections to the rocker switches.

Not sure where they are on a 711 - on our 627GA we had intermittent problems with the drop down bed.

I traced the circuit & found loose bullet connections under the cupboard where the rocker switches are-lift the false bottom & you should see them but again not sure re the 711.

Mine did exactly same, one of the small wardrobe doors at rear of bed had slightly warped door, open the door and look at both pin switches at top of door casing, make such (as much as you can ) that both are getting fully pressed in with door closed.

As a fix/bodge on mine I placed a small strip of double sided fixing tape on inside of door where switch touched, this cured the problem.

One of the jobs I was going to look at a better solution but never got round to it.

Sorry only read first paragraph, now see you have problem with both beds, so not the issue I mention.

Yes affecting both beds - so unlikely to be cupboard door switches or bottom limit switches. i will obviously need to investigate it further when my family bring the vehicle home. They have two more nights away and am hoping that they can get through it - starting tonight again.

On my Chausson 530 the drop down bed won't operate unless the the habitation light circuit is switched on and illuminated on the CBE control panel.

Been like that since new and the dealer can't answer why the factory wired it up in this way.

Still as it's nearly always dark when we go to bed it's not an issue😭😭

Hi Sasbo,

Yes, our beds will only operate when lighting circuit is switched on at the control panel - so it definitely isn’t that.

What remains for me is the question of why did it clear the issue by unplugging/ reconnecting the 230v hook up (despite the control panel showing a full hab battery).

Kayak Kid yes it's a strange one. The CBE control panel does have it's quirks, as if I turn on the awning light then press it off it switches the water pump off. This doesn't happen all of the time and it appears the CBE control panel flexes and is a possible cause of the issue.

This may not be of any help so best if luck with your investigations.

Sasbo - I have no problems with the Control panel. Given that it is probably a generic unit and used by Chausson in various models, it has a limited amount of circuits which can be incorporated in it. The two beds in mine, as I see it, have been intentionally included in the lighting circuit. I don’t have any problems with it like you have described you have with the water pump - which as you know has its own circuit and switch.
Haven’t resolved my problem yet but will do so when it comes home.

Thanks again for your interest and advice.

Jim
