Electrics - I just can’t get my head around. I have bought a Bessecar and it’s currently getting refurbed.

I’m getting 2 solar panels bolted on to the roof but the company doing the refurb asked me what invertor and size of leisure battery I need and I have no idea.

Stuff I’ll be running will be the following so if you’ve any advice I’d be grateful to get it as I’m hoping to be off grid.

Fridge - 24/7
TV - 3-4 hours use per day
Laptop - 3-4 hours use per day
Phone charger
Wifi router - on 24/7

There’s no other plug in stuff really but as I have no limited budget I’d rather go for just more than I actually need.

Thanks folks for any help offered

Gary

All these can and are best to run on 12v rather then inverter, fridge is better on gas..

With the solar I suspect with two panels your having around 200w, it would be best to have two gel batteries of around 100amps each, or unless your going the lithium route..?

The gel batteries and solar will/should keep up with your demands but will/may struggle in winter when no sun is around..😎

Im installing similar to you but with 400w of solar and a 1000w inverter just to charge my e-bike batteries and other stuff for the odd occasion…😎

All items in your first post can be run on 12 volts IF your fridge is a 12v compressor fridge. To run a microwave you will need an inverter and a large enough battery.
Your first decision step is how much power will you need.....this leads to deciding on battery size..... do you intend to try to stay off grid or use hook up. If off grid how many days power redundancy will you need. This helps decide how much solar you need to recharge the batteries. Generally with solar you need to fit as much as you can.
Your man/woman doing the refurbishment should be able to guide you through all of this.
With a microwave I would suggest you need at least 200ah of batteries with at least 150amp max discharge, a 2000w inverter (pure sine wave) and at least 300w of solar with good quality MPPT charge controller. Should also consider fitting a good dc to dc charger so you get good charging whilst driving. HTH

I think I’ll be going down the lithium route as that seems to be what everyone will be using in the future.

Is their 1 x 200 amp I can get or maybe even a 300 to make sure.

There’s going to be 4 x 3 pin plug sockets fitted as well as USB ports.

Search on here for what lithium funsters are using, there’s an advert on this page with discount for funsters, you’ll need to investigate if your van can charge lithium and how much solar you going to have for putting the charging back in… there’s a lot of information on certain threads and the search box will give it to you…😎

You will need to have a good look to see what set up you have already.

Where are your batteries at the moment? What size battery could you fit in its place? If you don't have space for whichever battery you buy you may have to reroute all existing cables.

This is a rough price guide for KS lithium batteries and also victron B2B's....

Cool, I’ll take a look at all the others and cheers for the advice.

I googled for answers but there seems to be so many formulas etc and apparently it all depends on what you’ve got running and for how many hours.

I’ll look on here and see if there’s an easier way of working it out. I think I might be looking at a 200 w invertor I think 😂😂

I will also be visiting sites so would have hook up available but I’m hoping 75% of the time I will be just stopping whenever and parking up for the night.
