Hi All, Just joined today, we have been caravaners for over 25 years and 31/2 years ago bought our first motorhome a Swift suntor. We took it to France for the first time this year for 3 weeks & thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact we enjoyed it so much when we came back we decided to upgrade to an Auto-Trail Cheyene 696G which we hope to take delivery of this month.

This year we stayed on commercial sites but next year are looking to try aires & Passion France, any tips thoughts ideas etc will be most welcome.

We have used both and love the motor home friendliness of France . When the camping sites are closed, you know you have somewhere to stop.
If only the UK did the same!

Hi, we've just come back from our first trip abroad down through eastern France to Chamonix, back through Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourgh and Belgium. We found the Passion sites hard to find, the post code system in France is not as accurate, and the directions a bit vague. In one town I was determined to find the site, so we parked up and after 10 minutes of walking found the site, only to discover that it was shut for the end of season dispite what the book said. I'm sure there are some great sites in the Passion book but be prepared for some frustration.

We had more luck with the Aires. Some are usefully located, such as at Bavay which has a Roman forum and a nice little town square. The Aire itself was pretty run down and next to a football park so could be noisy. We mainly used the Aires for lunch time stops or for finding some where safe to park. They were useful in places like the Alsace region where the medieval streets are restricted to large vehicles. They can be hard to find even with directions, the French normally place just the one sign and leave you to guess the rest!

The Alan Rogers book was excellent although expect to pay top dollar (sorry Euro), we used a lot of the municipal sites as these were cheaper and often of a very acceptable standard for a one night stay.
