We have just had such a shock!driving up to Skegness for new year, there was a terrible crashing noise in the back and when I turned around the large roof light above the living area had been completely ripped off and had blown somewhere in the distance!it took a moment or two to register what had happened and we pulled over as soon as we could.the whole thing including the handles that hold everything down was entirely gone with just the blind flapping around.we regrouped and googled the nearest B and Q and drove there and bought a large sheet of Perspex and gorilla tape so we could seal it from the inside as it was raining,of course it was!we’ve got on site safely now and plan to seal it from the outside too when we get ladders and daylight.
My question is,is this covered by our insurance?if so I is it worth claiming for?also as Hettie, our van is 24 years old will we be able to get new or only a second hand one?Shes an Autotrail Chieften.can I just add it absolutely was shit and locked we have t had it open in months!!!!!

Don’t claim on insurance as you will have to declare the claim on every policy you are a named driver for the next 5 years so your premiums will rise on all vehicles. Don’t even ring your insurance about it as they will register a claim whether you do or not.

Add road speed plus wind speed and combined could have wind in excess of 120mph. Make sure all hatches and windows are locked down tight. Also the sealant had probably gone brittle. Not sure if these are just glued in place or also use mechanical fixings.
