Hi,
Our dvd part of our head unit has just died. Unlike many motorhomers I'm old and have lots of dvds, most of which I've forgotten, so can watch again. We are limited for choices. We could talk or try to remember what we would have been doing in years gone by, when it was dark.
Can anyone suggest a head unit with a dvd that will aid us through this period?

RIP them using a PC to to Solid State Drive, far more portable, that would be my choice then they can be played on most devices. That would be my choice.

Argos also sell a 24" tv with dvd player for about 120 quid. You will need an inverter to power it.

However like above we rarely use the dvd player as we have ripped all our DVD's using a program called Handbrake. They all fit on one usb stick!

I guess I know the answer to this but; I'd also like to play music when I'm driving, so I could do with a disc player. Did you rip your cd collection too?

Hi Joe, if your old headunit is like this one, then you're welcome to it for free if you want to pay the postage on it.

Done that about 10 years prior to the DVD's. Apple have a service called itunes match which makes your entire cd library you rip into itunes available on all apple devices. We link that to the head unit for driving. It costs about 20 quid a year, or just over £1 a month.

You don't need to sign up to spotify or full apple music, itunes match as it's called just makes stuff you rip onto your PC via itunes available on all devices, quite simply. You can download to the apple devices or stream, choice is up to use if you use data.

A single USB stick again, alternatively for music can contain all your tracks, and most commercial head units if you rip and add metadata (itunes does this) even result in the album art appearing on your head unit if it supports it. Even 10 year old pioneer head units usually can play mp3 cd's or usb stricks.

CD's themselves are actually not all that suited to the auto environment, with the cold/hot cycle in winter destoryijgn the disks over time -> it was that which lead us to switch after we purchashed around the 3rd copy of a concert CD we quite like.

But if our motorhome head unit failed (which does take the feed from the phone we use now via bluetooth, we would switch the head unit for another supporting that).

We still are old school and prefer to buy our music on CD and rip ;)

All our dvd's and cd's ripped to ssd/usb drives. Also all cd's on mobile so can play using Bluetooth.
