Can anyone recommend a decent head torch want a battery powered one not rechargeable at a sensible price.
I had a led lenser that was fine but left the batteries in over winter and they leaked ruining
the torch.

Got one of these, does the job.

Solution
Why not rechargeable.....it still has batteries.

Oh, I know.....you forget to charge so stick new alkaline batteries in then forget to remove in winter and they leak.

Mine...VICTOPER head torch. Extremely long range and around 5 hours constant use.

I hesitate to enter this thread but having worked at Duracell for 14 years, the last 4 of them as Director of Technical Marketing - Europe, I feel qualified to assure you that the only two reasons they would leak are:
1. Manufacturing fault - So extremely rare as to be most unlikely.
2. Poor design of the equipment's battery compartment. Common with cheap imported (dare I say mostly Chinese) products.

Briefly:
The outer can retaining the electrolyte for ordinary zinc carbon cells is the sacrificial anode which erodes over time whether when in use or in storage. Inevitably enabling the electrolyte to leak out.
The outer cans of alkaline (Duracell) cells are stainless steel and play no part in the performance of the cell or battery and therefore do not erode. All Duracell cells with the exception of the AAA (MN2400) size have a safety vent that prevents the cell from bursting with force under pressure caused by users mixing old and new cells, dissimilar types or brands or a short circuit in the battery compartment or equipment.
I could go on (and on and on and.............)

OK they're rechargeable by USB C but just bought these, two for £14ish.
Not as bright as our Lifesystem headtorch but they do also have sensor control to turn on / off by the wave of a hand.
Ideal for walking the dog in the dark mornings.
Only been using one of them for a couple of days so not sure how long they'll actually last before recharge.
Also got a couple of their normal torches kept permanently in the motorhome.

No idea of the make of mine, found it in a drawer and I had forgotten about it. Tape over the switch which you press to turn on/off and the same batteries from when it was last used maybe five years ago, been using it for the last two weeks without a problem.

All very impressive. However I bet that whatever the torch type is, battery, rechargeable, or nuclear within a year you will turn it on then have to bash it on the worktop to make it work…..

I’ve had Duracell batteries leak and they weren’t in cheap products! I suspect that most people (including myself) wouldn’t bother reporting this to Duracell so I question if Duracell have an accurate figure of the true failure rate.

We actually have two of those in the house, and now have two in the MH as well. The two older ones, had for 3-4 years, and still fine.

Last about 5 hours, give or take. Think there's the less bright setting would do longer.

To be honest, the motion sensor is a pain if you are working around a vehicle (as it just detects any relative movement, not infra red). Use the right hand in off switch to avoid.

Nice and bright, though!

Yeh ,if using for "work" it's switched on "permanently". Just use the sensor when walking the dug in the morning as he has a flashing collar on anyway.

I have a Petzl one, not sure which model. I bought it when I was running ultra marathons as the battery life is excellent as are some features, it has a dip function so if car lights come it will dip from full beam, also has auto dip if you tilt your head to read a map or something else, you can Bluetooth it to your phone and control the brightness instead of taking it on and off. Now I only use it occasionally I hardly charge it as battery last a while.
