We have just set off on a trip to Croatia. On returning to the van when on the ferry when we started the engine the hazards came on. They would not switch off! After a few pressing if buttons and switching engine off and on it was ok again.

Yesterday no problems.

Today we set off - all OK. stopped at a supermarket and when we went to set off the problem appeared again.

This time it wouldn't go away. It seems as soon as you start the engine they come on. Switch the engine off and you can switch them off using the hazards switch. However, restart and they are on again. Also seemed to start when we opened the doors and the engine wasn't on!

We called breakdown but now seems ok again. Contemplating carrying on our journey. Not sure breakdown will do anything if all is ok when they arrive.

Any ideas on what might be the cause or a temporary solution?

Is there are specific hazard relay I can remove or is it shared with the indicators?

How is the relay accessed. It seems to be behind the dash?

I'm guessing it's associated with your alarm system.
Ships do weird things to alarms I have found.
With ours it automatically switches the immobiliser on.

I'd simply switch off your EBL and reboot the entire system, and if it continues then find an auto electrician and get him to show you the fuse to the hazard warning lights. (Just make sure you know how to put it back if you need it in an emergency!)

My thoughts were an alarm issue too, this would explain why it happens when you open a door.

We had the alarm go off once while we were driving along. The engine cut out (immobiliser doing it's thing) alarm sounding and 4 way flashers also doing their thing.

We fixed it by disconnecting the cab battery for a short period then reconnected. The problem was eventually traced to the engine trying to do a re-gen of the DPF but finding a fault code present which caused it to throw a wobbly, if that isn't too technical a term.

It probably won't work but worth trying the cab battery disconnect trick. You may need to reset the date etc on the dash but otherwise no harm will be done.

Also seems alarm related to me. Do you know anything about the alarm? Standard or what make?

Gemini Alarm. Actually I have had issues with it recently. I noticed that the garage door sensors are not working.

The accident fuel cut off switch is also linked to , engine running , doors ( locking ) and hazard lights through the BCM , so , as has been suggested , it would be worth trying a battery disconnect / reconnect to see if the system will reset

Well I decided to cancel the breakdown and carry on and it didn't mis behave for the rest of the day. We'll see what tomorrow brings. I'm not touching anything for now!!

I agree with previous posts it does seem alarm related. Don't know how your Gemini alarm is wired in but my Gemini alarm plugs into the OBD port. If yours is the same check that the plug is fully inserted. I also found that the bonnet sensor can be a bit "iffy". It works by making an earth path when the bonnet opens. Make sure it's correctly adjusted. Hope this helps 😎 20230910_171002.jpg

I had exactly this problem on a Vivaro van. It was a faulty hazard switch. Just disconnect it, temporarily!
A replacement on eBay was less than a fiver as I recall. Been fine since, until the dog stands on it! 🥴
