Have some friends buying a Rapido A-Class van, Good---Bad? Ideas please.

Sure you'll resolve it with the collective's help (y)🤞(y)sounds like a lovely van at a bargain price. Neighbours are very lucky and widow will be happy knowing its gone to a good home. How can these dealers live with themselves taking such advantage of people??

I agree that the dealer was likely to be taking advantage of the situation, which is very poor. However, I guess we do need to probably factor in that the van as we now know is actually a non-starter that would‘ve played a big part on his offer price, especially not knowing the problem. I still think the van is a bargain, but in its current state I.e to purchase something that would need to be towed away rather than driven away has to be a big factor.
fingers crossed it’s nothing significant and the neighbours purchase it and have many years enjoyment.

Try putting the spare fiat fob in the engine compartment. And see if it fires up.Sounds daft but i have heard of a few problems of signal from fob to immobiliser not getting through. From what you are saying it sounds like the fiat immobiliser that is at fault. I went to fill van up and when i came to start it it just turned over.took key out and put other set in and not had any problems since.Touch wood.

Certainly looks good and the lady who’s selling it would have the satisfaction of knowing her van would continue to be treasured and provide years more pleasure for its new proud owners.

Have you managed to get the van started yet?

I have a Rapido 924F, 3 berth, that we have owned since 2011/12 and we love it. It doesn't have all the extras that this one has, and I would say ours is probably worth around £25k, so this is a real bargain. I haven't had any significant problems with the engine but I know that with our immobiliser, we have to press the button on the remote that locks, then again unlocks to start the engine, and have 30 secs to try otherwise nothing happens when you turn the key.
Batteries changed in the alarm fob could loose the code and may require resetting. There should be paperwork with the van that provides the info. I hope you manage to get it running.

An update on this motorhome.
We're still trying to get it started. It's been off the road since October & the cab battery had given up the ghost.
That has now been replaced & the engine still refused to turn over. We managed to work out that the batteries in the remote plipper were in poor condition, so those were replaced & the engine earths were cleaned up, so now it cranks over perfectly, but still refuses to fire up.
My suspicions lie with the immobiliser, so what I'd like to try is a direct power feed to the fuel pump solenoid to see if that would allow the engine to start? I'm really curious to know what the forum members think of this plan & can anyone help with information on how to go about this?
I'm not the one under the bonnet doing the work as I'm badly disabled, but my mate is reasonably savvy with mechanical stuff.

All assistance will be very gratefully received.
I would suspect fuel supply-if a diesel will crank it should start-as long as it has fuel. My original Hymer did that too me, it had an airlock in the fuel feed to the injectors, we cracked the pipes open and cranked it until fuel appearEd, tightened up again and it was away. This was a 1993 Fiat Hymer and the fuel pump and injectors were mechanical.

We have finally got to the root of the problem. The fuel pump in the tank had seized solid.
We could hear it clicking, but no output when the fuel pipes were cracked off. I tested the voltage to the pump & that was fine, but the pump still wasn't running, we removed the pump from the tank & couldn't even turn the pump by hand!
The 2004 2.8 was the JTD, so is a common rail engine. The new pump should be here tomorrow.

I agree with you ,and , the main thing is if both parties are happy with the deal that is all that matters , that's how I look at things that I have sold and bought, for example we paid over the odds for the Bungalow we bought last year as a private sale , the couple who sold it were very happy to sell without a agent and we got a place in the part of town where we wanted to be.

Oh good. Please keep us informed, we all like a happy ending and I’m sure your neighbour, the widow will feel very comfortable with the price especially after the work you and your friend are putting in.

Thanks Carolyn. I spoke to the widow on friday & she is well aware that the vehicle is worth more, but she thanked me for all that I've done towards getting the motorhome sold. She categorically didn't want the sale hanging over her & was so relieved that it's a done deal. She is one of life's worriers, has lost a lot of weight & was in tears when she hugged me for our assistance. She is delighted that the pressure has been lifted.

The motorhome I've been talking about is running now.
So, the rundown goes, battery dead, replaced.
Immobiliser batteries low, both plipper batteries replaced, remember that they take two batteries each plipper.
Vehicle was now turning over, but not starting, tank fuel pump seized, now replaced & the vehicle started instantly.

Thanks to everyone who offered help, this forum still astonishes me with the formation which is available.

Hi good luck to you we had one bought in 2014 for approx 25k and partex 3 years later for the same money. We got rid of the Rapido red and put part leather uphostery in it and the dealer who took it in sold it 2 days later. Did Spain in it twice and it was very reliable. We have seen they are asking roughly the same price now so it is a bargain!

Obvious I know but is diesel getting through..?

If it’s been standing since October the fuel could be gummed up…?

Load of water in the filter..?

Pull all the fuses spray with contact cleaner..

Got to eliminate the obvious and easiest first…😎

I don’t often get things right so I’m going to make the most of this one…. I told ya so…😆😎

Well done..
