Set off from home for our much needed winter sun in Spain. Fridge packed up heading through the uk, everything defrosted so binned. Heading on the AP7 south of Valencia when a Spaniard decided to fall asleep at 120kmph. We were in the inside lane at 80kmph then BANG. He collided with our trailer then mounted it hitting our car then sending the trailer into the back of the van. This caused the chassis extensions to buckle and move the towbar off-centre 15 inches. I persuaded the recovery guy to pull the towbar back in-line which allowed us to continue to our destination with caution.
It's all a total disaster but we are ok.
I'll let you know how my insurance company perform. I'm with Comfort so Aviva are in charge of everything.

Thats shocking
What happened to the trailer and car, did they continue with you ?
You were lucky to be able to continue your journey
I hope things go better for you and the insurance are accommodating
Were police involved ?

It's all a total disaster but we are ok.
TBF it's a real PITA, but not really a 'total disaster' if you've managed to reach your destination.
Presumably, you now have a bit of time to chill, and sort yourselves out.
Glad to hear you're okay, and you're not stranded at some remote location.

Very strange things with the police. Can't explain now but it really isn't normal not allow me access to the other driver. Was given a phone number by police for my insurers to contact but they wouldn't give me any information. Unknown to them I got a photo of his car and his damage.
Everything to be taken back to the uk by insurers.

Glad to hear that you are ok but that is peculiar as both drivers have to fill in & sign each others european accident form. Call me cynical but that says to me that the police knew him either as a colleague or someone of 'importance' & I would be making sure that your insurance company was informed that the police refused to allow any contact with the other driver & basically were 'protecting' him. Pity you did not get a photo of the driver .

Unfortunately poo happens. Main thing is you are ok and managed to get to your destination.
Would you want to share a pic or 2 of the damage?

First and foremost you are both physically ok. Hoping that you both managed to get some sleep last night and today your mind is resting a little easier after the horrible shock.
It does sound like you played no part in or had zero fault in the accident and so the insurance should be a relatively straight forward affair your side even without drivers details. I had something similar happen with the police in Germany when my car was hit by a hire car and it became a criminal investigation. I would suggest that you send any photos you have now to the insurance company rather than wait though.
We have our fingers and toes crossed that it is all sorted and smoothed over quickly and painlessly for you, and you can enjoy the rest of your holiday. You never know it could end up being the best you ever have.
On the bright side, you will be a strong candidate for sharing insurance advice abroad on MHF for others.
Take care both.

Exactly Richard...very strange...the Police knew of this person, but was protecting him for some reason or another....they know the Accident Protocol and clearly didn't follow it or assisted a overseas driver at stressful times like this..very strange indeed.

Sending hugs as it’s all I can do, apart from wishing you a safe trip from here on in.

I was also thinking someone of importance, possibly over the limit, but definitely not right.

No matter what the circumstances you didn't need this so sorry to hear it's happened and hope it can be sorted out without to much more worry than you have over it.
Good to hear you are not hurt.

My insurance company are now aware of a possible cover-up and have instructed there Spanish legal department to act. Fortunately I photographed his vehicle so they are happy with that.

So sorry to learn of the very unfortunate accident, but glad you are both OK. Hope the insurers manage to sort everything for you quickly and seamlessly. Sending you both best wishes for a relaxing Christmas and a better 2023!

Hope you're back driving and enjoying the open roads again soon

The main thing is you're both OK Wilf.:whew:

Pass it over to your insurers, as you've done, and let them get on with it.(y)

Enjoy yourselves on holibags.(y)

Similar happened to Martin in Switzerland where the at fault driver was whisked away by the police. We found out later the other driver was well known to the police and criminal charges followed. No details given in case it affected the criminal case.

Really sorry to read what happened to you, it must be very a stressful and difficult time for you. I am not clear if you are able to continue in any way in your MH?

So sorry to hear this. You must be pretty shaken up.
Glad you’re both ok.
I’m assuming the damage isn’t too awful if you able to carry on?

I read it as although able to continue with MH to site the whole lot is being recovered to the UK by insurance?

Glad you are both ok, sorry to hear about the accident, I'm glad you took evidence .

Accidents in a foreign country are no fun, no matter how serious they are.
Our experience of this was to get hit head on by a truck that came through the central reservation, hit us and take the roof clean off at the A posts.
My wife spent 2 weeks in a Malaga hospital, at the time i thought i was loosing her.
Deeply distressing, my thoughts are with you.
Glad your ok.

So sorry. Our is nothing compared with your nightmare

I managed to pull the towbar straight with the recovery trucks winch. The driver was braindead. I slowly continued to the campsite. Trailer is buckled, car needs new bumper and motorhome needs new chassis rails and tow bar. The towball actually pushed towards the van and bent. Everything is being sorted.

You are okay but of course because that is the case all you can think about is all the hassle and expense that is no fault of your own. The wonders of today is that everyone has a camera that can take hundreds of photos so hopefully you did that. Let the insurance company deal with it but keep prodding them to keep them on their toes. All the best.
