Hi everybody and was just wondering how much folks pay these days for a habitation check ? I have to have mine done every year to keep the 10 year water ingress warranty and it seems to go up every year ! £296 this year for what seems to be just a 3 hour check ! .

There are 3 Adria recognised agents in the Chichester area of West Sussex. Have you shopped around for a better price?

I use a local mobile company that is registered with the Approved Workshop scheme. They are 175.00 include a damp check. Attached is a quotation from Travelworld from 2022 which is why I changed. The MH was 5 years old by then with no damp and I have been told getting a damp claim passed by Hymer is very difficult.

Do you have to have a full hab check or will just a damp check suffice for warranty purposes?
Good question I would much prefer and can manage to do my own habitation work as it’s not rocket science. I would much prefer just to have the damp check done.

I'm sure IH quoted over £400 for our panel van hab check. With a 5 hr round trip as well.

Local guy £180.

He's coming to our house tomorrow(y)

Mobile servicing from a solo operator should be a lot cheaper, does not have the overheads of a workshop etc. However for damp checks to keep a warranty active it will need to be an organisation that is approved by the manufacturer, not just recognised by a trade association like the NCC.

£180 more realistic I paid £165 last Yr for a Mobile Hab Check 👍

The fact it’s for a panel van with far less chance of water ingress than a motorhome I feel that is pushing it. But 4/500 is really taking the p.

Unfortunately they have you over a barrel especially when trading in.

Never thought of having an Habitation Check. Private S/H purchase so no warranty requirements.

Over 15 years I must have saved about £3,000 at the lower end of prices quoted. Which what my cab window seal replacement cost last year, after 21 years in the sun, which probably not have been covered in an habitation check.

In my opinion habitation checks are a scam.

When people reply saying how much they have paid, why not give the name/ company name of who carried out the work.
Just a thought.

Maybe because the OP just asked 'How much?' not 'Who?' did it.

I use S&G Caravan Services, NCC approved based in Sompting. Shaun charges me £150 and he comes to where the van is.
I've used him for the last 5 years.

Yes I agree .. big scam, although if required to keep warranty you cannot ignore, but on an old vehicle !? If I ever sell privately .. no hab check certificate, if want one done pay for it yourself, if it fails bring the vehicle back for full refund . If a prospective buyer is reluctant to buy without a certificate they are perfectly entitled not to buy and I respect their preference. I monitor and regularily maintain, you can smell a gas leak and check damp yourself. Fortunately my present van has fibreglass inner and outer shell, filled with polystyene bead insulation, no wood anywhere except for hab furniture cabinets etc

My mate has never asked any dealer or private seller whether they have had a hab check or even any type of service or service history? Nor has anyone ever asked him when selling privately & to dealers.Sold the last one a couple of months back & the buyer never asked anything nor wished to even drive it?

First a hab check fir an experienced person should be nowhere near 3 hours.
My Adria was done this year and will be done next year by an Adria dealer but only because it was an offer of £199. Anyone on the Approved workshop scheme can do hab check work on Adrias and the warranty is maintained

That is right.

Our previous Adria I used the guys that turned up today to do my panel van.

£160. Our Adria dealer when we had it done called us and we emailed copies of service to them and they registered it with Adria no problems

Not sure the op asked for an opinion.
The original post asked for how much people pay.

Just saying

Mines free this year - part of the deal with Marquis on the new Benimar last year

OP was obviously concerned about the cost of Hab Checks so I was just giving him another way of looking at the need for them, or not.
I would not bother myself if I didn’t have a newish van and I want the warranty cover.

I am quite able to see any potential problems and as an ex gas safe engineer could check for any issues with gas and electric. Hence why I refuse to pay dealer fees £4-600 and go with independent mobile £160

But not everyone can do that so although manufacturers want you to check for damp. It’s also a safety check especially for those who are not aware of potential risks.

So although you can go down the road of saving money on service and maybe never have a problem it’s quite a saving at some of the prices quoted. But it’s a risk if you’re not technically minded in my opinion.
