Just had first hab check done on hymer on its 10th birthday, so maybe a bit over due.
We have owned her for 5 years now stacks of history prior to my ownership but no hab checks. Never really had any major problems with here apart from minor issues like leisure battery fridge thermostat failures but nothing major but we needed the gas crash valve replacing (10 year life span) and the wife was getting a little concerned so I got the local specialist to replace the valve and give it a full check over and £145 for the hab check (valve fitting extra). We got a clean bill of health I do routinely check for damp with a meter and keep a close eye on all the appliances. So very happy.
How necessary are they once the habitation warranty runs out ? and should I wait another 10 years ?
I also put the post up to tell all in the Penrith area about Kings caravans at Flusco Penrith and what a good service I have got from him,

It sounds to me that you are a very capable owner doing almost all that a so called professional would do but for nil cost so I would as myself. Why spend the money on something that I am doing competently myself?

I’ve never had a full hab check/service done on any my 4 Motorhome’s after I seen what they did and price they charge, however I do get my damp check done every year to keep the 10 year warranty and only cost around £100, they have to spay something on the Knaus so needs to be authorised place.

Can you pressure test the gas system?
Have you got a sniffer to test the flue?
I pay a mobile NCC guy £175 annually and he has found things I missed, last one was a small split leak from the Truma boiler. He sourced a new one from Truma and installed it for £400 all in. Try getting a price like that from a dealer!
I begrudge the extortionate insurance and tax rates but don't begrudge this.

We have a hab check done every year along with the damp check which is a requirement for the van's 10 year water ingress warranty. I feel that the hab check is money well spent which may pick up something which may otherwise ruin your holiday. I can't imagine being on the Outer Hebrides or Shetland or some other out of the way place with no chance of a repair. Even if you could find a dealer, the chances are that they would struggle to fit you in any time soon.
It may be expensive, but what price for peace of mind? (y)

We did it for the first 2 years to keep our full warranty.
Then a damp check every year to keep our damp warranty.
Yes its money for old rope but it's in my opinion worth it.
