Guy Martin to retire from road racing.
Good luck with your chosen future Sir, Road Racing & the TT in particular should be eternally grateful for the publicity you gave it. :notworthy2::cheers:

To be fair I'm not surprised he seemed to be having more offs recently and the body can only take so much. I also suspect he thinks that new Honda engine is iffy and isn't prepared to take chances. Probably John M will be next to announce his retirement (unless he already has and I missed it).
Martin was as mad as a box of frogs but great to watch and listen to his interviews.
Total respect for the man.

Apparently, he hasn't quit - just taking time out as Honda haven't got their bike ready as they had promised:

Looks like the Scunthorpe Telegraph got it wrong then, Sorry

Found this on his FB page - updated an hour ago o_O

"So a lot of folk have been talking asking about racing and what I'm doing.

"I went into the year right excited about the new Honda. I thought it would be great straight away and so did the team.
I soon realised that it needed a lot of developing and it will be great but it needs time and I’ve got loads of other projects going on, that Id rather use that time for. I didn’t get involved to develop a bike over months and years, I was told I'd have a bike capable of winning straight away and that’s why I couldn’t turn down the opportunity.

"TT was a bloody disaster, aside from walking the dog and racing the Mugen, I didn’t enjoy it. It was clear even before that we were going to struggle and then it turned into me really being a test rider, which I did but after we did more testing at Cadwell a few weeks back, I said to the team the bike won't be competitive at the Ulster Grand Prix and they decided to withdraw me from the event, although they didn’t tell me, which is OK as the decision was made for me.

"So I’ve not given up on racing or road racing, there’s no unfinished business and I want to race classics and oddball stuff. All I've been thinking about recently is Pikes Peak and any spare time my brain has had is about Pikes Peak on 4 wheels. That job is down to me and if it doesn’t work, it’s my fault and I like that.

"So there’s no bad feeling. Neil Tuxworth has been upfront with me from the start and it's a shame for everyone that the new bike hasn’t worked. I know how much effort I put in and so do the team, so no regrets but I've got no plans to do anymore road racing on the Hondas this year.

"Nigel Racing Corporation (NRC) current plans are preparation for Pikes Peak and classic racing but the plans can change with the wind.

"Ta for the support." Guy

I think if I had bought that new Honda I would be sh*tting myself every time I went out on it. John Maguinnes isn't known for coming off and his crash at the NW , in my opinion, was mechanical. Honda have been very quiet on the subject an reading between the lines of Guys post he clearly has reservations about the bike.

Honda made a statement in MCN today stating that a glitch in the Chinese!! made ECU on McPints bike caused a throttle to blip incorrectly, or at the wrong time, now rectified according to them.

That is incredible, his awful injuries, lost earnings plus what's going on with Guy.Serious errors there by Honda in my opinion as an owner of two Honda bikes.
We just don't know where stuff is produced anymore. Not confidence inspiring for hundreds of Honda racers on the planet.Just saying.

Sad really when any sportsman has to retire early through injuries

Brian, doubt we will ever know for sure where it came from. What I do know is they both got injured for " inexplicable reasons".
I watched Guy's off several times, grim on the Island or the unforgiving roads of Ireland.
Remember the journalist who died testing the new BM GS!threw a blanket over the wreckage and nothing more heard.

Far from it. Software errors are as common as foreskins on a synagogue floor. Microsoft sends out fixes every day. Almost certainly the software would not have been Chinese.

Read page 71 of this weeks MCN, Jonny Twelvetrees stated that the ECU had to be sent back to the supplier in China to extract data from it.

I suspect this has something to do with his decision ...

"Martin has recently revealed he is moving house as well as expecting his first child with partner Sharon Comiskey.

The pair are moving house ahead of expecting their daughter in October."

I recall in early interviews etc when he was asked about if there was a lady in his life that he said something like he dated girls but he didn't think it was fair to 'get serious' due to his racing/risks ... having a kiddy has no doubt made him re-think that.
