Night time driving down a tree lined very narrow Welsh country road. Rain lashing, did I mention the rain, generally bleak driving conditions. All of a sudden a tree swerved & took out my passenger side wing mirror & awning. No other damage except minor scrape to polish out I hope.

Any advice on replacing the awning, can an amateur do it! What’s left on van is the shell the awning is secured in to so that needs removal & replace with new or second hand. It was an Omnistor 5000 but can’t find one so far. Have replaced wing mirror with good deal from wingmirror man online.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks
Jonny

Thank you. Managed to remove the rest of the awning from the 3 attachment points. Was 4 screws either end & 1 in middle. Needed something to be easy. 🙌

Do you really need the awning, remove the shell of it and seal the holes and lots of weight and also lots of money saved for other things.
On balance I realized that our awnings over the years were very rarely used, present van did not have one so very happy with that, but we are all different. (y)

Was lucky myself going to thr NEC recently, driving along a fairly narrow country lane and I just managed to see a large branch about eye level hanging into my path.
Luckily nothing coming thr other way or it would have no doubt taken out the windscreen and run down thr side of the van😳😳
Probably large lorry been through and disrupted the tree as the branch had no bark on☹️☹️

Not the first time I have had to do this!!
