Evening everyone , just wondered any recommendations for ground sheet for underneath an awning.
Want to do the right thing with a breathable one. Would appreciate your thoughts

I would suggest no ground sheet ..

our experience with breathable ones, if the ground is dirty, wet or muddy a breathable one gets really dirty, folding up is a dirty job, it needs stored somewhere.. then it needs hosing or jet washing when you get home.

nearly all sites require you to lift breathable ones regularly as they also kill the grass... Moroccan carpets are no better.. we had one, bought in Morocco .. didn't keep it long before we binned it.

what is the purpose, unless you are using it as a bedroom, do you really need one ?

that's my thoughts.. I would rather not have a groundsheet, grass under bare feet is lovely..

Brilliant great advice, I thought they were compulsory, would much rather have grass, plan to bbq in all weathers,

If its in winter, a hard standing pitch would be my preference, but still no groundsheet.
Hope the BBQ is outside though, unless gas or electric, but even then caution needed in an enclosed awning.

Horses for courses. We have the Fiamma close weave plastic ‘patio mat’ that is an exact fit for our 4mx2.5m wind out awning. Found it to be invaluable in the dusty or sandy conditions when parked up in Crete/Greece, or on semi-stubble fields. Recently used it on a damp and slightly muddy pitch but it folds up and concertinas on itself before putting in the bag, so nothing else got dirty. Took all of 10 minutes to wash off with a hose and broom when back home.

I think it would depend on the ground.
Good ground with short grass-no groundsheet.
Hard standing and awning on same surface, gravel-wouldn’t bother, concrete-no, dirt and stones-probably.
The dead areas left over from other campers look horrible and invariably you have to camp on top of them.

As others have said, it depends on the ground, but if it is particularly dusty or with long straggly vegetation that might be harbouring biting insects we just use a couple of the interlocking foam mats in front of our chairs to keep our feet off the ground a little.

When grass has been newly cut, where sand or leaves stick to your feet or other foot soiling detritus proliferates, the carpet goes down. On Aires, nothing at all goes down but our feet. I have a pet aversion to sleeping with sand in my bed and will do my utmost to prevent that happening. It still does though.
