With Mayday at the minute, but I am wanting to go to France in Sept.

I think with Mayday, they dont do Euro cover, but I have heard Green flag do.

Anyone use Green flag? or another recommendation
TIA
Ian

Green flag do Europe but it is an option you have to add. Not sure what their policy on motorhomes are though.

We have a Nationwide Flex Plus current account. It includes Cover with the AA in the UK (up to 7.5 ton and 8 metres.) It also includes Europe. It's personal cover so will cover any vehicle you drive (and your partner too). It's £13 per months for the account so £156 per year. It also includes worldwide travel insurance for you and your family so a bit of a bargain really.

I will have to change banks, which could be an option.
We have lots of existing health issues - wife's quite serious so is there an add on to pay?
I will have a look at the link thanks

No you don't have to change banks. Just open the account. You don't have to use it, just put £13 a month in to cover the fee. Or £156 each year and forget about it, I don't use my Nationwide bank account. In fact I have about 6 bank accounts but only one I consider my 'main' one.

Yes - like any travel insurance there will be health dependent add on. £156 is just the 'normal' rate. You would have to ring and ask about add on costs. Good thing about it being a monthly fee is you can always cancel at anytime if you think it becomes too expensive.

However, you don't have to use the Health insurance. If the £156 is good enough for the breakdown just use that. You can't not have the travel insurance but you can just ignore it - never use it, never claim. Personally in that situation I would not tell them about any health issues if you are not going to claim. (Assuming you have appropriate cover elsewhere.)

I thought Mayday was Greenflag...
If you opt for Mayday on CAMC website it takes you to Greenflag.. both I believe UK only.... If you want CAMC Europe cover you need Red Pennant!!
Or have I totally misread CAMC site??

Having read so many bad stories on How Funsters have been left high & dry in France & EU, there is no way I would sign up with The RAC. My advice to any RAC members would be to do a search on here and see the extent to which some Funsters, especially with Gearbox problems were seriously let down, RAC didnt even return their calls as promised, and didnt offer alternative accommodation as "They Had a Motorhome" and as for repatriation, no way, they do all they can to wriggle out of getting your van back to the UK.
If they offer you garage services over there, then thats it, they have now satisfied their obligations, even if they are not Fiat Professional, or have the knowledge or software tools to do the job!.
Plus eye wateringly high up front quotations, for inspection only, therefore are not guaranteed to finish the job satisfactorily.
Most end up getting any fixes done when back in the UK, at Adams Morely in Southampton they seem to be the experts on all things "Comfortmatic" or leaky slave cylinder issues.

I have always been with Green Flag. They are an excellent company.

Ditto for all the times I havent had an NHS provided car, either direct or through the C&MHC with Mayday.

I first joined when they were National Breakdown Recovery Club, anyone remember them?

(I see the name has emerged again as an independent recovery co.)

Purchasing Mayday/Green Flag through C&MHC gives you dual journey cover (handy if you Caravan rather than MH) and I believe you get a more generous vehicle length allowance (handy if you have a big MH).

My understanding of how Red Pennant vehicle repatriation works is that your vehicle would get loaded onto the ferry in Europe by the overseas contractor and unloaded this side and brought from port to home by a Mayday/Green Flag operator/garage. That is why I believe you get a (small) discount for having Mayday cover for the UK.

We once had some friends breakdown spectacularly in Europe and this is how it worked for them, but it was a good few years ago now.

Yes indeed.... even better than that...
There are no vehicle age, size or even weight restrictions!

Just been on the Green flag site and its coming up at £202 for my van, probably as its 10 years old. I would like to add my car on but this needs a call.

Another question - we will be travelling with a dog so anyone had issues with this, as I've just looked on a cheaper comparison site and they do niot allow for pets so no good for us

Neither!

Nationwide Plus account. £13pm = £156 a year for which you get full EU breakdown cover on any vehicle up to 8m &7.5T you happen to have registered in your name or be driving or have lent it to the kids or a passenger in etc. Oh, and if joint account that applies to both.

As a bonus worldwide travel insurance (has top ups for health conditions) and Mobile phone insurance.

Found it worth opening an account years ago, very much cheaper than multiple insurance policies.

Quick edit as I think the new T&Cs may not cover motorcycles below 125cc

Dogs not allowed as rule in the recovery vehicle but if happy can stay in your vehicle whilst being recovered

+1 for Greenflag, we have the Moho cover for the van and me and er are covered as personal members in any car.
So we got the van and me and er for less than we paid for 2 cars last year (no Moho then).
We signed up with Red Pennant for our upcoming French trip.
Vehicle and holiday insurance in one.
Please check any weight or size restrictions, One operator assured me that my Moho would be covered under my personal membership, when I rang back to check as was told only up to 3.5 tonnes and 6M.
So please check what you are buying, to late at the side of the autobahn!

Red Pennant will cover pet repatriation.

Fortunately I haven't had to test how they do it and it may mean they travel unaccompanied but at least you know you won't have to leave your pet abroad (no chance!) or one of you travel separately home with your pet.

It's often left to the discretion of the individual driver.

Daughter was recovered last year by Green Flag and 'The Savage Sausage' was allowed to travel in the cab. He did however spend the entire trip giving the driver some serious 'side eye'.
