After a very long stay at the bike doc I have the Beast back, it needed a new wiring harness. Nightmare getting parts from Austria caused most of the delay but I have bonded with it once again.

No,it won't be going with us in the van this year, will be taking the 690 Duke. Not my cup of tea at all, but beautiful colour.
Ride safely and enjoy. Should we be looking forward to some pictures of your adventures
There no power to the exhaust servo. What was wrong with it to require a new wiring harness?
Arron.
It's looking North from the car park at Queens View. I took a pic of my 790 at the same spot when it was new too.bigtree
Trev, any chance you can move that big (but beautiful) orange lump oot o' the way.
Trying to identify the road and cannae see it 'cause o' the obstruction!
It's annoyin' me as I know it!
Is it getting up towards The Campsie's?
Scares me just to look at it !. Biggest I had was a 250cc. Though I had been a pillion on a Kwak 1300 !After a very long stay at the bike doc I have the Beast back, it needed a new wiring harness. Honestly Trev, it's such an easy bike to ride and you don't need to twist the throttle to enjoy it.Scares me just to look at it !. Biggest I had was a 250cc. Though I had been a pillion on a Kwak 1300 !

The pegs are a bit sportier than my 790 Duke but me being still a young āun at 65 can manage.Very nice I had a 390 for a bit of fun once but normally ride a BMW 750gs these days, no more super sports as I canāt get my knees round my ears any more still fun enjoy and ride safe
Nakedās arenāt as rad as a sportsbike, I didnāt like my mates BMW S1000rr.Very nice I had a 390 for a bit of fun once but normally ride a BMW 750gs these days, no more super sports as I canāt get my knees round my ears any more still fun enjoy and ride safe
They donāt make a 790r.I was going to ask if the KTMs were any more reliable these days but reading why yours has been in I donāt think they are. Shame as I quite fancy the 790R but looks like Iāll be looking elsewhere. I need my bikes to be reliable. Perhaps my super Tenereās baby brother or the triumph Tiger 900.
You can be unlucky with any make of vehicle nowadays.I was going to ask if the KTMs were any more reliable these days but reading why yours has been in I donāt think they are. Iāve probably got the letter wrong. The one I mean is the adventure style bike with the 790 engine. I do like the look of it but good looks donāt get you home. They donāt make a 790r.
Ah okay yes, there is the 790r adventure. Itās a big bike that, never had that style of bike. My first bike was an Aprilia Pegaso which was quite tall, I liked it but it was too tall for my wife, she has the Duke 690 now.Iāve probably got the letter wrong. The one I mean is the adventure style bike with the 790 engine. I do like the look of it but good looks donāt get you home.
It is a shame but I do sometimes tour abroad alone and cannot have an unreliable bike.
This is the one I like.View attachment 487937
I should say that I had the Duke 790 prior to getting the SDR , I had a couple of small issues that were quickly rectified by the dealer. Its a cracking bike with plenty power and character but best you do your homework and decide if itās for you.Iāve probably got the letter wrong. Had a R1200GS for a few years. A mate has just got a F850GSA, Iāll have a rate on his but after riding a F850GS for a week in Sardinia I felt it a little under powered.Try a BMW
I tried a Triumph Tiger 900 nice bike problem was the triple really high whistles and set off my tinnitās
What are the problems with the 790 adventure?Had a R1200GS for a few years. A mate has just got a F850GSA, Iāll have a rate on his but after riding a F850GS for a week in Sardinia I felt it a little under powered.
I will have a test ride on the Triummph Tiger 900. Both the GT pro And the Rally pro. The Rally has the 21ā front whereas I think the GT has the 19ā. I wonāt be taking it off road other than the odd green lane so the slightly lower GT would probably suit me better.
I will also have a ride on the Tenere 700 as itās my current bikeās little brother.
As I earlier said, I had hoped KTM had become more reliable but it appears not.
I donāt think thereās a specific problem, just they seem to need more TLC than most. Iām just reading about fuel pump issues, coolant leak on start up, oil leaks none of which fill me with confidence. I will try one as usually the only owners posting are ones that are having problems, we never hear from owners that have no problems. What are the problems with the 790 adventure?
I had an oil leak on the rocker cover which was common, rectified without a problem. Slight water leak which was just a nip up of a jubilee clip, again others had it. Didnāt stop me buying the 1290, I met another owner on Monday and he has had more KTMās than me with not one problem.I donāt think thereās a specific problem, just they seem to need more TLC than most.
