We are travelling with a small dog to the Hook of Holland. On return we need to find a Dutch vet to administer a worm tablet. this has to be done 1 to 5 days before travelling back to the UK. We are looking for recommendations for a vet in the hook of Holland area. Also does anyone know of a vet who is willing to issue a "EU" pet passport.

Scotjimland thanks for the link, it is great for France.
I am still hoping for someone to recommend a vet they have used in the Hook of Holland area. Preferably a vet who is willing to issue a "EU" pet passport. I suppose a vet in any part of the Netherlands, as you get 5 days grace before you need to travel.

Used Anicura Dierenklinik Delft 0152850230 E40 for examination and passport stamp and also Dierenklinik De Gouwe in Gouda tel 0182510958 E45 for same treatment both speak good english no idea about pet passport though, Where are you travelling from? If from Germany, Christian Marks in Berncastel Kues E5 including tablet has been used by many on here and is a bit of character 0172 3970423 may well do a passport as well

Back in 2021 when we were researching vets in Europe, The Dudess came up with the following info (post #13):

Generally the Netherlands doesn't feature much in Pet Passport threads but a few on Facebook (yes, I know!) have posted that you now need a UBN number to obtain a Pet Passport and that this is only provided to residents. I suspect that this a distortion of the actual facts (along the lines of I-cad in France) as all I can find on official sites is that a dog only needs to be registered on one of their national databases (there are nine to choose from!) if it is in the Netherlands for more than 3 months. In order to register a dog, you need a UBN (Unique Business Number) from the Dutch government which costs €19. I have found nothing official that states a UBN is necessary for a Pet Passport to be issued. So I suspect that you will have to phone around a number of Dutch vets and ask if they will provide you with a Pet Passport as a non-resident.

If you have the time, it might be worth a trip to Bruges as there is a vet there who is happy to issue Pet Passports to Brits:

Thanks for all the replies. Very helpful. We are staying at Delft, so will phone them to discus what may be possible.
Our dog had her 3 year rabies jab last year, so not needed for 2 years. I wonder if a vet will issue a EU passport without a new rabies jab ?

Some will, but many won't. Transferring rabies vaccination information across into a new Pet Passport is fine if it is done correctly. This means details of the vaccine entered, signed and stamped by the EU vet - not them just writing something like 'see AHC'. If vaccination details are transferred across, the date for the microchip must be stated as 'date of implantation' and not 'date of reading'.

Because of the potential for errors, it is often preferable to have a fresh rabies booster given at the time that the Pet Passport is issued. If you do this be sure to check first that the vet administers 3-year rabies vaccinations.

Thanks MAZ. We are going to our local vet this morning for the AHC at £130, just for the one trip.

Please let us know how you get on with obtaining a Pet Passport in the Netherlands. We have very little first-hand knowledge of vets there so all information is useful.

If you do manage to find a Dutch vet willing to issue a Pet Passport, be sure to check its done properly by comparing it with the 'How to Complete Pet Passports' booklet:

It is not harmful at all to have another rabies jab now. I would get a new 3 year one with the PP

We are back from our trip to the Netherlands, We did phone a few (2 or 3) vets to see if they could issue a EU pet passport. They all stated not without a "UBN" number. So we will look into getting a number before the next trip. The vet we used near Gorrinchem was great. Our jack Russel refused to take the wormer tablet, without a lot of inducement, treats etc. In the past the vets were able to give the worming treatment by injection, but this is no longer possible in the Netherlands as it is not available.

This UBN number is really only relevant to residents, as is registration on DogID. As I wrote in post #5 above, a UBN will cost you €19, but just be aware (from what I have been able to find out) that registering your dog to a UBN number could result in you having to pay 'dog tax'. You would need to look into this in more detail yourself but the following links may be useful:

1. https://english.rvo.nl/topics/ident...-dieren/honden/registration-rules-dogs-abroad

2. https://www.denhaag.nl/en/taxes/dog-tax.htm

The second link is specific to The Hague but they have the highest rate of dog tax in the Netherlands - an eye-watering €137.28 per year!

Do we have any Dutch Funsters who understand the system?

We attended a vet in Maastricht to update our dog's rabies jab on her EU passport. (She was on Einstein St, sorry cannot remember the specific name)
Charming young lady who understood the process very well.
We arranged the passport in southern Spain last year. Our dog is on no database and nobody has ever asked!
As far as I could ascertain most european vets simply see this a quick way to increase their income and think the whole process is nonsense.
As an aside, we got worming tablet from another lady across camping Le grand Gravlot in Calais (literally across the road, done without pre-booked appointment!)
We had a lovely time there, by the beach, not an immigrant in sight!!
Don't be unnecessarily deterred from Calais in my experience!
