Hello hello hello.

Lots of posts on this. More than when I enquired last sept when I had just bought my first Campervan.

Just want to get a few answers as I am going to fit one myself next 1-4 weeks... Probably a week.

A) inside or outside Campervan...noise wise? Seen lots for both. I'm thinking outside... But does this really negatively hit efficiency?

B) 5kw enough for ford transit campervan..£100?

C) apparently exhaust is super hot, any tips?

D) hearing oil can get used instead of diesel? Any stories.

E) any brand to support avoid.

Many thanks in advance

A, whatever is easiest.

B, more than enough. Probably twice what you need at least.

C, careful where you mount it and get a silencer for it. Apparently they make a huge difference.

D, only ever seen diesel used so no idea.

E, Chinese ones seem fine, loads of people buying and using them that I know of.

A) I mounted ours externally under our MH and it's wrapped in a thermal sound deadening jacket, so no loss of heat from the housing.

B) 5Kw might be overkill as most camper van size vehicles use a 2Kw version.

C) Keep the route of the exhaust away from bits you don't want burnt. I have wrapped our exhaust in exhaust wrap to try to tone down the noise and to reduce the heat radiated from the exhaust.

D) I run mine on kerosene 28 which is home heating oil and it runs as happy as Larry on it with no carbon build up.

E) They are all pretty much of a muchness, but I can link you to one which I know works okay.

Great replies already thank you.

F) anyone got comments on loads of noise and maybe why people wrap in deadening jackets... Assuming there is a type for this as I assume unit gets wrap too? Was thinking

G) can hearing oil like the kerosene 28 be used in any Chinese diesel heater or do I need special type and can I use included separate plastic tank?

H) yes please any Amazon links to known good UN's that work with heating oil such as kerosene 28 as above?

Thanks so much

I have one and it's great. 5KW is easily enough for my L3 Boxer.

Exhaust is hot, so pay attention to where it's going on the underside of your van before install. I probably spent spent longer thinking about it than fitting. I went for the passenger side because I wanted the air intake away from the van exhaust.

Also consider the importance of placing your heaters air intake away from your heaters exhaust. Mine go off in totally opposite directions.

I filled the small gap in the hole the exhaust goes through (between the exhaust and the van floor) with exhaust putty from the underside, no exhaust fumes can come back in through little gaps. I used Gum Gum. Do use exhaust putty because its made to withstand massive heat. Other sealants will melt.

Get a good carbon monoxide alarm! (This is not the same thing as a smoke alarm or gas alarm as some people wrongly claim!) You should have one anyway, even without a diesel heater. And get a fire alarm. I also carry an extinguisher and fire blanket. You might already have these things, who knows?

If there's anywhere where the heat of the exhaust could be an issue perhaps look at motorbike exhaust wrap. I wouldn't want to cover much though, myself. But bet is just don't put it anywhere silly where the heat could be an issue.

There is a tick, tick, tick noise issue with the diesel pump. If you can, site the heater well away from your sleeping area. I think the insulation is to reduce noise from the pump and not for heat loss
Use a metal turret to shield the exhaust as it passes through the vehicle floor if mounted internally. Some people mount them outside/underneath and don't have the hot exhaust running through the floor of the vehicle

If you go for a 2Kw version, be careful as some sellers are palming off 5Kw heaters as 2Kw.
Here are the dimensions of the 2Kw and 5Kw units.
Note the 5Kw is longer one end.
