Going away to see in the New Year?

Thought we would go away to see in the New Year as our daughter has decided to return to London after Christmas to be with her friends for New Year.
We are in Cornwall, has anyone any recommendations for sites and places?

Looe or St Ives. Both have big street parties with a fabulous atmosphere.
