I think the main concern for Retail business in towns and cities is convincing all parties its safe to visit. Reduced footfall for many high street operator's will bring closures.
Many high streets were dieing well before Covid as we're markets.BUSBY.

I was kinda thinking about the TV adverts of a couple or so months ago where they "showed" transmission through those infected touching hard and soft surfaces. Other half was advised yesterday in a Tesco branch that she couldn't try on sandals before purchase! Wonder what the difference is if she bought, tried on at home and then returned? Guess returns might go through some sanitisation before resold?
Go Outdoors had a policy of putting items that had been tried on into cages / boxes and put in isolation storage for several days if not longer before being put back on the shelves. Back in March, I was asked to minimise the number of items I tried on because the items I didn't buy would not be available for others to buy until the isolation period ended.

Because of this...

It's a bit like saying I drink and drive but you don't have to if you feel unsafe.

Not seeing it that way, but if someone thinks that the mask is protecting them, then fine. I know that it’s the other way around really, but if it helps people to feel more secure in themselves who am I to argue. (y)

Thinking about what I said is hurting my brain now! I was trying to say what you are saying.

What I think my analogy was meant to mean is.... if everyone else wears masks your are safe, even if you choose not to wear one. However, someone near you may not be safe if you happen to be near them and have covid as masks don't protect the wearer as well as they protect others from you.

Likewise, if everyone on the motorway is sober you are probably fairly safe, however everyone else isn't very safe as if you are drunk you might plough into them.

Or something like that!

Nope, you’ve lost me. 🤔

If someone, anyone, wants to wear a mask what harm can it do?……Unless you want to rob a bank.
