Our first ever motorhome adventure starts early tomorrow with a 300+ mile run to the Drum Inn at Stansford where we are overnighting before taking the tunnel to Calais. Then it's through France, Spain, Portugal, Spain and back across France. We have allowed 8 weeks + so in no rush to be anywhere at anytime. Apart from the (still) non-functioning diesel heater, everything else seems to be in order.
Can't wait!

How exciting. Have fun and enjoy yourselves.

Very exciting! We did a similar trip for our first foreign foray in Autumn 2021. We took 9 weeks. What I will say is we found France/Spain more than enough (didn't spend too much time in France as weather wasn't great on the way down and it was cold on the way back) but we still found there was more to see in Spain than we had time for.

We are going to focus on Northern Spain/Portugal for another 2 month trip sometime.

Overnighting at the Drum Inn, Stanford, near Folkestone. Great site, great food, highly recommended. Tomorrow - France!

Enjoy yourselves and don’t try to cram too much in.

We find that France not to hectic and it’s a bl**dy big country with lots to see.

Now at the Camping-car park Aire at Merlimont Plage. Weird place - nearly all the properties, including the beach front blocks, are shuttered and empty. Found a bar that was open but we were the only customers! Leaving for Bourges in the morning.

Side note - if anyone is using the D940 from Calais down the coast be aware that it is closed at Boulogne sur Mer. The diversion is down right baffling!

Did this trip a couple of months ago and as much as we loved france most of it was damn cold and closed! Until we got down to st-jean-de-luz .
By the time we'd reached spain (and the warmth) we did very little exploring and more sitting in the sun....... drinking.
Never made it even half way around spain let alone Portugal before it was time to head back to the tunnel 2 months later .
Have a fab time both , we will be back very soon to do more of it .

Have a great time. I hope the weather is kind to you and your travels trouble free.

Very heavy rain overnight in Merlimont followed us part-way down the A16 today before turning into squally showers blown along on gale force side winds. Nice detour, courtesy of our sat nav, had us travelling along the Ave Charles Degaulle towards the Arc de Triomphe then under a tunnel, across the Seine and a great view of the Eiffel Tower. Weather conditions eased the closer we got to Bourges. Found the campsite (Camping Bourges on Ave Industrie) only 20 mins walk from the town centre. We are here for 2 nights so tomorrow is a chill day - no driving, more drinking 👍🍺🍷
Oh - and some sightseeing, apparently 😁

In and around Bourges today - the weather forecast was dreadful but luckily wrong! It stayed dry, bright and warm until just after we got back to the site, when the heavens opened. Great timing on our part 👍😁

Oops! Not sure why I posted 3 of the same photos! Or how to delete 2 of them ☹️

Tomorrow , Oradour- sur - Glane & Limoges.
Be interested in your thoughts on Oradour, we have a trip down that way in September.
I take it you couldn’t get the heater fixed before this trip.
Hope the weather holds off!

The diesel heater is still u/s but the electric blown air heating is working so we can keep warm. Weather has been "changeable" so far but we have dropped lucky and been inside when the torrential rain and thunderstorms struck. The gale force winds on the way down to Bourges were the biggest worry.

Oradour - one of those places you must visit but very uncomfortable - especially the "underground " memorial. I'm not a weepy person, but that place just got to me. First time I've experience the phrase "and no birds sang"
