Starting to not plan a German trip for September
Have had lots of ideas from you all in the past (usually ignored but still appreciated  )
This year we are planning to revisit a few places and some new mostly heading south ish.
We have three weeks.
Only definite is Bad Dürkheim for there wine fest as we need to book a site for that. We have been before years ago but for some reason the memory is a bit blurred. This will be the end of our trip leaving a couple of days to get back to Ijmuiden for the ferry home.
Possibility's are
Monschau as we would like to do some more bits of the cycle route from there. There is a Funster that did a report on the route in the past and we did one direction but want to do a bit more.
Speyer mainly for the tec museum. Been there a few years ago but would like to go back subject to management approval. https://speyer.technik-museum.de/en/
Dahn for some really great rock formations.
Some stops on the Moselle

Not bothered about the Black Forest it has never really clicked with us.

Up to last summer we never bothered booking sites in advance. (we mostly use sites). last year we came across a lot of sites full. I don't know if this was due to the area we were in or just things being busy for September.

The plan is to linger in places and chill more more than in the past and drive less. Last year we were up towards the Baltic but ended up with some long drives due to time constraints etc.

Anyway open to ideas?

Well that's Bad Dürkheim booked
Really not a fan of pre booking sites especially this far in advance but wanted to be there for the fireworks.
Knaus site's not cheep
Can always balance things with a Stellplatz or two.

Now hit the first snag.
I have always had an old fold out map of north Europe with anywhere we have stayed highlighted.
It seems to have gone awal.
Most of my guide boots etc have migrated back into the house over winter but no sign of this map in house of van.
Plan for this trip is to stop longer in some of the places we have been before.
Most I can remember but we have never been into keeping notes
First world problem I know

A good starting point is Cologne. We toured German last September and we happy to answer any questions you may have. Here is "Google My maps" link to show you our route. We did make some slight changes to it but it was essentially the route we took.

and here is our YouTube video about Cologne:

Thanks MerlinUK we have friends who live just outside Cologne so may give them a call if they are not away on their own travels.
We did like the area below Munich lots of small lakes.
I think my plan of having a more sedate trip than normal is drifting again.
Latest thought is to base ourselves somewhere on the Moselle with a train station for a bit and then use them to get about from day to day.
Perhaps Cochem or Koblenz.
We have bikes for shorter trips

Wow that looks like a great route, how long did you spend travelling it ?
