We are thinking our next trip, shorter than usual at just over three weeks because I must first go to France and watch the unfolding disaster that is the English rugby team... don't get me started.

Whilst we have visited bits of Germany before, notably Freiburg and Heidelberg we don't know the country well. Tips, ideas and suggstions will be very welcome. We usually carry electric bikes and like good food, walking and nature and visiting nice towns or cities. We will probably use Stellenplatz a lot, keeping full campsites for days when we want a bit of a chill out and get chores like washing done. We will have gas for hot water and a bit of heating, but not enough for three weeks so an EHU will be needed sometimes.

We tend to only ever have a loose plan at best, which often is mostly dictated by the weather. So far our thinking is to make our way toward Cologne from Coquelles (tunnel is booked thanks to Tesco), possibly with a stop in Belgium if anyone has any ideas for that. From there we wondered about following the Moselle as we want to visit Trier. We also wondered about visiting Bavaria and driving the romantic road.

Lastly would anyone find a travelog of any use, in the vein of some of the experts on here, but not as witty or well written.

Rivers make a good target if you like cycling. A lot have extensive cycle path networks and can be wonderful in the Autum with the wine festivals in the villages. Be warned it can get chilly. Last year in the Moselle it was 8c, during the day, over about a week in late September. That is not the norm though.

Did a trip to Black Forest a few years back. First stop was car park at Petit Coo, about 250 miles from Calais. Not far from Spa F1 track. Reasonable restaurant, Le Baron, adjacent. Then a 100 mile run to Metz municipal, site or aire, then another 100 miler to Strasbourg, Camping Indigo.

Better forget Germany then restaurant food is pretty grim.

Weather in September can get into the 30's we have had that on the Mosell but October can be very changeable obviously better the further south you go.
Plenty of mountains & forest to walk up & in. Worth following the wine route down plenty of Sellaplatz in the wine producing villages.

Blog please. Will be interested in how you get on. Not done Germany in a motorhome but have been to the Black Forest and Swabian Jura multiple times with work and I really like it there. Food is great if you are a carnivore. Recently went to Villingen-Schwenningen which is nice, Triberg, Rottweil and Konstanz I have liked all with plenty of bars and restaurants. There are some real gems out of the towns in the woods and hills. Drove from Konstanz across the northern shore of the Bodensee to Kempton which was also very scenic. You’ll need electric bikes - it’s quite up and down mind. Good luck and happy travels 👍

Brrr. Glad I was there during June then.
Was there 12/13 June also this year😁 lucky to get a nice pitch right down the end facing the lake as it’s probably the only one we can fit on easily ☹️
We also had 4 nights in 2 visits up the road at the Stelplatz. Nice little village and lovely walks around the lakes.

The Moselle is great, Cochem etc. The Romantic road area is also nice. We stopped off in Rothenburg ob der Tauber in September last year and it was incredible. Lovely town with a great stellplatz. We had a meal there and it was lovely so I must be the exception in that I like German food. But I was born and lived there on three seperate occasions and my mum was Austrian by birth so I guess I'm used to it!

We’ve just recently left Lake Constance/Bodensee after 3 nights at Camping Park Lindau. There are dedicated lakeside cycle paths both ways - into Austria and Bregenz, or Lindau Altestadt on its island and Freidrichshafen and beyond the other way. An excellent place to spend a few days chilling as well, what with the swimming at any number of lakeside places.

Bavaria every time, tried france in June, soon ended up back in Germany!!
Anywhere from Rothenburg ob der Tauber down towards the alps will do😍😍
Rothenburg has a great aire P2. But DO NOT do the Greek restaurant opposite, he’s a miserable t***

We're just up the road from you. Spending the second of two nights at the basic but functional stellplatz at Freidrichshafen. Used our free regional transport tickets (register and collect from Tourist Information) to take the train down the lake to Lindau and back. Our complimentary tickets also gave us a free one hour cruise across the lake yesterday evening.

Just a bit too ruddy hot! (But finding shade in the many biergartens solves that issue). (y)
