I am quite keen to book with GB motorhome tours for their 2019 70 day Canary and islands tour. Has anyone used their services or been on one of their tours ?

Howard, i was really interested but because i was going solo they wanted £200/300 more. Apart from that they seem pretty good, but have no personal experience.

We're going with them in September on the Rhine in Flames tour. It will be the first time we've done an escorted tour but we decided to see whether it suits us. They do seem good if you're prepared to pay for their services.

Thanks for that they are expensive but this is my retirement present to myself so it’s a one off (y)

Am sure its well deserved then Howard. I may have to revisit this myself because i did really fancy going.

Done our first trip to France with them , could’ve done it a lot cheaper but had some really good company & very helpful for our first trip overseas. Been loads on our own since, but I might consider the Canary Islands tour.

I will be very interested to hear how you get on. We chatted to the owners/organisers at a show and they seemed nice. We did Rhine and Moselle with Crossings which was a real let down as there was us, the tour guide and one other couple but we'd certainly go with another company and check minimum numbers. Don't think you need to worry about that with GB as their canary trip fills up quickly. Something to really look forward to.

@Howard H. Well Howard i have finally got around to booking that Canary Tour, so will see you for that beer.:drink:
Fantastic , really looking forward to meeting you perhaps we will meet up before then or on route down to Spain for a few practice beers we will probably set off a week before the tour and take our time getting to Cadiz

I've decided to join up with our hosts and travel down with them, also i'm travelling back with them. I thought as it's the first time on my own then safety in numbers!!!

Sounds like a plan, although i am hoping to go away in Sept. But i like to be flexable.

I've read all the way through the planned itinerary - sounds a fascinating trip!

We know many of the places listed, having been to all four of the islands on the tour. Though obviously we have not visited everywhere included, or most of the specific camping locations.

We haven't taken the van to the islands either, only flown there and rented cars.

Interesting that Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are not included, but it would be very easy to tack those two islands on to the end of the organised tour (or beforehand). The scenery isn't quite so dramatic, but nonetheless some very different coast and countryside which is well worth seeing. The roads are of an excellent standard and generally very easy to travel on with a MH - we've seen quite a few there.

Anyway, hope those of you that are going will have an amazing time - I'm sure you will! :)

Do keep us posted on your adventure.

Mike (y)

Will keep you posted Mike, really looking forward to it. Yeah flown to a couple of islands myself but this is a 1st for driving.

Just wondered how you are getting on with your tour , it came to mind as we are on a mini break to Tenerife on Tuesday. We have also booked the GB Norway tour for June 2019. Hope you are on your tour and enjoying it.

Think the other people on the tour is the key.We did one with Desert Detours some years ago,,two of the vans on the tour never stopped complaining and ruined the atmosphere until after 4 days with a bit of encouragement they left the tour. Excellent after that.BUSBY.

Hi well we are about 7 weeks into the tour and having a great time we have been to places that we will never forget and driven on roads we will never forget  We have been to la palma , la gomera , Tenerife and have just got off the ferry in Gran Canaria . Our tour guides have been faultless they have sorted broken vans out defused diplomatic situations and just been really helpful and informative they names for the record are Kevin and Nurcan but if if you expect 5star campsites you would be very disappointed but that might just be on the Canary Islands they don’t have a lot of choices in the campsite front . Have we enjoyed it ?yes we are would we do it again I don’t think so. Hope you enjoy the Norway tour I am sure you will .

Glad to hear you are enjoying it. I have a big birthday this year which is why we're splashing out. We knew we wanted to visit Norway but it was a bit too far outside our comfort zone in a motorhome. I don't think the Canaries would be high on our list of places to tour, we've been on some of the roads in a bus! It is good to hear that it's so well organised though.

Hope the rest of the trip is enjoyable plus the journey home. Thank you very much for the info.

Your welcome , just told our guides you had booked but they don’t do that tour but know the people that do , they said they are very “ social people “ so it sounds like you should have a great time :drinks:

Glad you've been enjoying your trip!

Not sure if I mentioned previously that, in recent years, we've been going to La Gomera every November/December. And have also been to La Palma, but only once there.

Hope the rest of the adventure goes well. (y)

Cheers, Mike

Morning Mike, as you have been to La Palma you will know of the roads I have mentioned but they seem like a motorway compared to gc - 200 in Gran Canaria it’s unbelievable. But if you want winter sun
the Islas Canarias is the place to be :D

There are indeed some crazy roads on Gran Canaria!

And yes, the winter sun is a key attraction for us, as well as the scenery.

Funnily enough, we've tried garaging the van at Alicante airport this winter and flying backwards and forwards to use it. We're currently on our fifth and final trip, and taking the camper home on the ferry from Bilbao in just over a week's time.

But what I wanted to say is that I think we've struck lucky with the weather in southern mainland Spain this winter. Mostly day after day of clear blue skies, with highs averaging around 19-20 degrees, but up to 27 on one or two occasions. There have been cooler days too. Overall, a few degrees cooler than the Canaries, but still very pleasant in the sun. I'm conscious it's not as good every winter.

But the big difference - weatherwise - with the Canaries, is the night time temperatures on the mainland. Usually, around 5 to 8 degrees, but frost on the van on a couple of occasions even near the coast.

Cheers, Mike. (y)

Is it me or have i been unlucky but weather in Canaries in winter does not seem much different to weather on Spanish mainland (other than 2016)..Found it warmer at night but day time very similar,,BUSBY:D:D

Must you @busby , we have been lucky I guess but the coolest day we have had was 23c and the hottest 31 c but most days it’s about 26 c and not seen any rain at all , happy days :D These are day time temps obviously :)
