Gasit v gaslow

I opted for Gaslow and am very satisfied. I wasn’t aware of some of the other choices mentioned here and my dealer offered the Gaslow system. I’m sure the other systems here work just as well. I’m assuming they can all be used abroad with the right adaptors in the way the Gaslow system can?

What's best for you will depend on what you want.
Cheapest price = Gasit
Lowest weight = Alugas
There are many more options (I use SafeFill) but they all address different requirements.
I've had two GasLow systems and both worked fine. Not having used GasIt, I can't say much about that. Maybe the colour might be the deciding factor? It was with the e-bike.

Been thinking about fitting Gaslow but I’m concerned about the availability of getting them refilled as it appears there are a lot of garages that have stopped supplying gas. I think they are great in Europe not so good in the UK.

I fitted a 2x11kg gas it system in my last van , I think the whole kit including external filler was around £350 from ebay delivered. Took literally an hour to fit it , most of that cutting the filler hole and mounting it.

When I bought my current hymer it also had a gas it system fitted but on this one it has the 4 valve gas it plus bottles with the built in gauge.

I fitted a gasit system on our last van & they were great, but this time we bought 2 11 kg Safefill refillables to go on our latest van.Best of both worlds, when empty ,no need to move the van,I just throw them in the back of the car & pop down to our local Morrisons. Should come in handy when we make our way down to Spain & portugal later this year as the wife has a trike with a basket on the back:giggle: & your usually only a few klms from a filling station.
You have a very understanding Morrisons. I tried that with my Gas-It and got told in no uncertain terms I was not allowed to fill it unless attached to the vehicle with proper filling cap. The attendant must have X-Ray eyes because I was behind the car at the time too.

Once you have refillable gas bottles installed you'll keep an eye out and find more than enough places. The thing is to always stay topped up, I've put two quids worth in so many times '\ .

Needing LPG to run the vans engine is a different story and you would worry about availability, but for habitation, the gaps between filling means you'll likely see 20 places to fill up between those fills (y)

We have had a Gasit system for about 5 years and never had a problem filling up. In the UK we use the FillLPG app and in Europe we use the Mylpg app.

Don't worry if there isn't a place close to your home to fill up. In our experience we can always find somewhere on our journey using the app or just noticing the LPG pump when we are filling with diesel. Just don't wait until both bottles are nearly empty before you start looking.

Our local Morrisons pump was out of order for about 3 months, recently, something to do with a nationwide safety check.Filled both bottles up yesterday afternoon, 2 x 11kg £20.93p.Cashier said to me whilst paying that she advised her F.I.L to get a set due to the amount of savings he'd make.

That's very cheap ...what price was that a litre ?

I've just filled one bottle in belgium €10.45 for 22.6 litre
Think it was €0.47 L

Look around for a local garage. I have a couple close by and more further away.
For UK, I rarely need to find any elsewhere. I've not had any problem on the continent, so far.

There are other places you can get refilled - we've used two different building suppliers who also sell refillable LPG, and at the lower VAT rate too as it's not for road fuel. Not sure though where you can get a list of them or if they're on the apps.

Hi going to fit refillable bottles to my pilote I know there is a price difference but is that all?
Duffie
ive got two bottles in my system, one is gaslow and i bought the other from gas-it to enlarge the capacity. It all works the same but Gas-it are cheaper and made to the same spec. all the fittings are the same standard.

I had gaslow already fitted in my previous motorhome and whilst touring Spain my inlet pipe failed and crystallized, I'd never dealt with gaslow before but quickly called them from Spain, they were amazing so much so they had a brand new hose waiting for me in Almeria as I was passing through.
For the quality of the system and the fantastic customer service I recieved I didn't hesitate in having a new gaslow system installed when we got our new motorhome.
Quite agree with customer service at Gaslow. A few years ago we discovered a leak the day before travelling to Spain for a few months. Phoned Gaslow and they arranged for us to call on the way down to Dover. Fixed the leak and fitted a new guage within an hour. No charge and a free cuppa. Happy Chappy.

We've had Gaslow since 2009, first a single 11kg bottle then added a second 11kg a few years ago. When we bought the original one it was the only option open to us (Gasit didn't exist) so that's what we got. It cost £240 for the 11kg cylinder, hoses and filler. The second 11kg cylinder was less than a year old and cost me £100 with some hoses I didn't need which I sold so cost about £80 in reality.

I did look into underslung tanks but they are expensive (as much as double the cost even DIY fitting) and not that easy to install plus they are usually limited on capacity - I think the largest capacity one that can be fitted to most MHs and PVC is 38 litres whereas our 2 x 11kg ones hold around 44 litres. The ease of being able to move the cylinders from one vehicle to another when swapping means having cylinders has definitely been the best option for us and as our original cylinder was a 15 year one it means it has a longer lifespan than the newer ones which are only 10 years.

I fitted a gas-it underslung tank.It freed up the locker space where I,ve put an extra liesure battery.I rang gas-it told them my requirements and dimensions and got a discount just by saying I belonged to a motorhome forum.Easily installed by any competant person with plenty of helpful gasit videos on youtube.
Here,s one I made of my install.

I'm yet to decide which system to fit in our new Pilote but having a Gas-it fitter close by will probably influence my decision.

However, I have decided to go for 1 x 11kg refillable bottle and retain I x 13kg Calor as back up.

Can any one advise the best way to "link" the two bottles for swap over ?

Can I keep my existing regulator which is the crash proof type ?

You can keep your (bulkhead) regulator.
Many are auto switchover (you connect both bottles and it decides which one to take gas from. They also have non-return valves, so that you don't have to have two bottles connected at all times.

Thanks "two" and apologies if the next question is stupid - how does the auto switchover know which bottle to use,? naturally I would want the refillable to be the "main use" bottle.

Thank for all your advice
Booked it in at autogas2000 for refillable bottles fitting in 2weeks time

You indicate which bottle to draw from. When that is depleted (no pressure left) it switches to the other bottle (and shows a red marker). Truma make one with an internal indicator, but expensive to add later. You'll need to pay attention (to the marker in the gas locker) but, with refillable, you don't need to wait until it's empty - just use the other bottle as an emergency.
A perfectly simple method, if you don't already have an auto-switchover regulator is to connect the refillable and refill sufficiently frequently not to need the reserve. If you run out of gas, the reserve is there for you. Your only problem is that you'll not be sure how much is left in the reserve bottle, once you've started using it.
You could get a Truma "LevelControl" (I think that's what it's called) that can transmit the level of gas in a (metal) cylinder to a mobile. It's on "offer" at £100 at the moment. You could use that on the GasLow bottle and even switch to under the Calor bottle when that's in use. That way, at least, you'd get some measure of how much was left in the reserve cylinder.

I just bought a POL adapter for my Gas It bottle and use the existing pigtail. So far I haven't needed to use my back up calor bottle.

Good idea! That's what I'd probably do if I didn't have an auto changeover regulator.
