as a newby to motor homing I would like to know if it is worth me spending out to fit gas low or alugas or keep calif gas . It seems that lpg might be in the decrease or am I mistaken ?

It will take quite a few refills to recoup the initial outlay but refillable bottles are far cheaper in the long run than calor bottles
LPG will be around for a long time to come.

Thanks pappajohn , I have only had my motorhome for a couple of months and used it once so far , as part of my cassoa storage rules I have to remove cylinders from vehicle when in storage so I am hoping that if I fit gaslow or alugas I will be allowed to leave cylinders in locker . As to cost , yes it is expensive to fit them but I hope now that I have just retired to use the vehicle a lot .

I have a Gaslow system on my motorhome. It's not about saving money. It's about convenience and not having to lug gas bottles around and changing the pigtails from one to another.
I've had this system for 6 years and only once have I had a problem finding a place to top up with LPG - and that was because I foolishly ran out of gas on a (cold) Sunday in France - as fuel stations are often unmanned on a Sunday in France and filling up with LPG needs an attendant in the booth!

Ideally a two cylinder system then when first runs out, you can start looking for a lpg place but without pressure that day.

That's interesting, as a newbie to refillables is that because the pumps need to be turned on at the booth or . . .?

Hello ex5isss and thanks for the welcome , I am thinking or fitting two 11kg gaslow to my vehicle a Rapido 7093 , and looks like it will either be Rhino installs or Dave Newell to fit it as I live midway between them both . I know that many say that it is easy to fit yourself but I prefer the backup it a professional fit .

When he fitted mine, he was mobile but now works from his workshop. Swmbo thought we had a gas leak last year and he said to get there ASAP and checked entire system free of charge.

I'd ask first as it would be farcical if you had to keep removing them, as they aren't meant to be . Never heard of a storage site requiring bottle removal ? Is this usual ?

I doubt that very much.. they are still gas bottles and the storage place insurance must have that as a condition that no gas bottles are left in vans..

Fixed LPG tanks may be different..

Our CaSSoa site insists gas is turned off but nothing about removing them for storage. That would negate my main reason for fitting refillable.

Can recommend Dave Newell, he did my Gaslow - along with a couple of other jobs and now does all my servicing.

Totally impracticable to remove refillable bottles almost the same as uninstalling & re-installing them each time, you need to check with the storage people first.
I can't imagine having a van without refillable bottles now so much more convenient and easy on your back. Our paid for themselves in about 3 years but depends on your useage, they come into there own when touring abroad. We have 2 x 14kg Alugas.

Thats why we have it, being able to fill up anywhere.

The first motorhome we had, I fitted one Gaslow. In Norway at -27c, I was filling up every day. Luckily the Shell LPG Station was around the corner from the campsite. And there are not that many in Norway.

Second motorhome, 2 x 14kG Alugas
Third Motorhome, 2 x 11kG Alugas
Current Motorhome, 2 x 11kG Gasit

We have managed in Sub Zero Temperatures in Switzerland, France and Austria with no issues.

Best Upgrade you can do to a motorhome if you plan to be outside the UK

Get propane but you can get refillable in 6kg size if that's what your space allows

Not always the case. I realise that one exception doesn't prove the rule, but the LPG pump in Les Rousses is now available on a Sunday, unattended.

Just spent the morning driving around West Hertfordshire trying to get LPG. Seems that most have run out and not had a delivery for several weeks.
Ended up by Luton Airport and the guy said we were lucky as his tanks were low.
2 x 6kg Gaslow tanks. Good system.
