Hi all
You've probably had this question before but here goes... Sorry if its a repeat... New to the site.
We are new owners, we are driving to Greece, we have a 6kg Propane bottle on board. In Greece most bottled gas seems to be blue butane bottles. We would like to spend some time in all the countries on the way to Greece. We will need to buy more gas along the way, which country and which choice of gas would be most suitable for refills along the way out and on the way back to UK later on in the year. We have a fixed 30 mb regulator in the van which would deal with both butane and Propane (I think)
Thanks in advance
Pela

Gas bottles are not interchangeable between countries, for a trip like that you really need refillables such as Alugas, Gaslow, Gas-it or Stako.

6kg won't last long we get through 14kg in 15 days, more in winter, we have 2 x 14kg Alugas refillablebottles.

Here is a search of forum theads that may be of help.

We travelled from Poland to Greece last summer/autumn.

We have one Gaslow 11kg refillable and were carrying an old Calor exchangeable which has been with us as a 'spare' since we bought the MH in 2009.

Obviously no problem refilling the Gaslow on the way and on the Greek mainland, but we knew there was no LPG on the island we had as our destination, so after the Gaslow was finished we had to resort to the Calor, and even that could not be refilled as there is no refilling station on the island - all bottles on sale arrive on the island full and leave empty. We were OK for or duration.

I am recounting this to advise that if going to some Greek islands having only a refillable might not be the answer.

As advised above exchangeable bottles are normally restricted to one country, so if one crosses a border and runs out one might have to bu a new bottle as well as the cost of the gas.

The ideal set-up is a refillable and a spare exchange, if one has the space in the gas locker.

You would be best with refillables and top up as you travel and before you enter Greece. If you know which bottles are used in Greece you could purchase a local one and feed it into your refillable system by way of a hose adaptor through the refillable fill point or BBQ point if you have one .
