We have a Globecar Roadscout Elegance 2021 model. Looking at the technical specifications, it seems that the gas locker is sized for 2 x 11kg gas bottles. The dealer said that the van comes supplied with one gas bottle so we asked the dealer to add a Gaslow bottle before we collected the van (giving us one exchangeable bottle and one refillable bottle). The dealer didn't ask us what size Gaslow we wanted but I assumed that they would fit an 11kg Gaslow, since that is the size of the locker.

However, it looks as if the two gas bottles we have are both 6kg, not 11kg, although I'm not sure about that as I can't see anything on the bottles which indicates their size.

Questions please:
  1. How can I work out for sure what size bottles we have?
  2. Am I right in thinking that the locker is big enough for two 11kg bottles?
  3. Does Globecar just supply a 6kg bottle with a new van, even though the locker is big enough for an 11kg bottle?
Thanks.

We have a Globecar, the gas locker will hold two 11kg bottles , but it is a squeeze.

To enable more storage capacity, we had an underfloor gas tank fitted, its a 30 litre which can hold a useful 24 litres. W understand there is enough space under the rear of the van to accommodate a 40 litre which would allow 32 litres . As part of the installation we also had a digital gauge fitted on the dash, so we know when to top up the one tank.

The additional storage space is very welcome.

We had Gaslow installed in our Globecar (Sumit Prime). We didnt think to ask about cylinder sizes (we had had an underslung in previous van). They installed one 11kg & one 6kg. They said not enough room for two 11kg.
It is more gas than we had in the underslung so I dont really have a problem.

Thanks, that's useful.

We've been for two short trips (3-4 days each) since we got the van last month, using the gas heating just in the evening (and not turned up high). We've had to refill the Gaslow bottle 3 times already — that's really surprised me as we only had a 2.7kg campingaz bottle in our previous (smaller) van but that would last for quite a few short trips. Maybe we're misreading the gauge!

Our 2021 Campscout Elegance has two 11kg Gaslow bottles in the gas locker. I watched the installation at Autogas at Thirsk and the fitter made it look easy!

That confirms what I thought. I wish the dealer had given us the option of choosing 6kg or 11kg. Now we'll either have to stick with the 6kg or fork out again for an 11kg bottle. I'm realising (too late!) that you don't always get the best advice from the dealer selling to you. I think their workshop just advises what is easiest for them rather than what is best for you. Ah well, you live and learn.

We’ve got a 2 x 11kgs Gaslow system in our Sunlight Cliff 600.

3 weeks in France last September / October……cooking (mainly via external supply), hot water ( a couple of times a day), heating on low most mornings and several of the evenings and we didn’t get through one of the 11kgs cylinders. 🤷‍♂️

I don't think that 11 k bottles are common in the UK, certainly not available from Calor, most dealers will supply 6k bottles as the UK 13k bottles are too large for most vans.
Your dealer probably went for the 6k for cost as well as convenience.
The gas locker on our Globestar is designed for 2 11k bottles, readily available in Europe, but it is not easy to get 2 full ones in, we use a mix of 11k and 6k and a French 10k but we are lucky that we can get them refilled near us in Portugal.
Better still is buy Spanish bottles, the bottled gas is subsidised in Spain.

11kgs cylinders are readily available from a number of UK suppliers…..Gaslow, Gasit, Flogas, LPG store. (y)

That sounds more like I would expect. Maybe we are just misreading the gauge. We refilled when the gauge seemed to be down around ⅓ tank capacity.

It sounds like a 11kg Gaslow bottle plus a 6kg regular bottle (which we intend to only use as a backup) would have been ideal. We'll keep monitoring our usage of the Gaslow and decide whether it's worth changing up to an 11kg bottle.

We have a Roadscout with two 11kg bottles in it - they fit snugly in the locker and the plastic / straps seem suited to that size. An 11kg bottle is about 3 feet high and 2 feet wide, I'd expect a 6kg to be half that size. I don't think that most Vans come with any gas as standard, I've never seen it mentioned in the blurb, it's more of a dealer freebie / sweetener as part of the overall deal.

Our gas locker may be different, in ours the bottles fit one behind the other and the rear one is difficult to access with an 11k bottle, side by side would be no problem.
The 11k size seems standard in Europe, certainly Spain and Portugal and smaller 10k bottles with the same diameter are available in France.

11kg appear to be the standard for everyone except for Calor. Our Globecar Campscout takes 2 x 11kg. For those of you without refillable bottles or underslung tanks, Flogas supply 11kg bottles & will deliver to your door.

Don’t go by the gauge, they’re notoriously inaccurate.

We’ve got an auto changeover, but never used it yet. (y)
