Hi Everyone this is my first post
And I would like to ask the community a Question?
Has someone purchased a new motorhome? And as part of the purchase had included in the Handover along with other extras like LIESURE battery waste pipe and other Ancillary equipment
A gas cylinder in the Gas locker filled connection made and oven demonstrated as part of the initial package?

And then subsequently pre collection decided to have the self filling system fitted and assumed that the initial gas bottle would be supplied still as a back up?

Is this the correct ✅ train of thinking 💭 or do you pay💰 a very high price for a motorhome and then Have to add the standard bottle as an option? As I have not purchased a motorhome before I thought that someone might have the knowledge and experience of exactly this?
And could possibly advise if I should ask for the original bottle and gas, they would have been paid for in the purchase price as part of the sales package? To use a an emergency backup

I look forward to comments Thankyou

We purchased 2nd hand.

We discussed the bottle (or lack of) with our dealer, and he agreed to supply with one (full) 6kg calor. We picked up a 6kg Flogas from our storage yard (they stock flogas to make our life easier), and we've not actually used a full gas yet despite being away 3/4 weekends since July). We never "expected" a bottle without a negotiation, but the dealer also swapped the pigtails as they were getting to 4 years old, and it was a preemptive swap.

I'd do exact same with a "new" motorhome.

When I purchased my MH new last year, it came with no gas bottles. Apparently, when we had our handover, the bottle used to demonstrate the gas fittings belonged to the engineer doing the handover! To be fair, he did explain this at the time. This was July 22 and being a newbie at the time (first MH) I thought I would be supplied with everything I needed). It didn't help that at the time there appeared to be a shortage of gas bottles generally, especially if you didn't have an empty one to return. I think we have probably spent at least another £1,500 on all the little things that you need (or think you need...another story) on top of the original MH cost!

My MH was purchased new and a gas bottle was supplied by the dealer. Very quickly opted for a single 6kg refillable Gaslow and a second red 6kg Flogas, and a bayonet pigtail. So I needed the spare. Did you go for a single or double refillable system?

My advice is that if a standard gas bottle was supplied with the bus, then it is part of the package, and is yours. Check it is entered on the purchase invoice, or sales communication. You will probably find that you paid for it somewhere.

Hi Thankyou for you info I did covert the system to 2 x 11 kg gas low filling system and purchased the European adapter set, and i will indeed look into the original sales invoice great suggestion 😋

Did you check the regulator as well if the pigtails are pushing it this may need looking at

We did get a full (not by dealer) hab check done by a AWS tech, it didn't show any problems as regulators had a "longer" lifespan, ie would last the full 5years . The van is only 4 years old - just the dealer didn't want to supply with pigtails with under 9 mo remaining as it wasn't "good form" - the pigtails were not new when van delivered.. Should say they also swapped the leisure battery for a brand new one. We have added replacing regulator to a task for next year, but with the (lack of) use of the van by previous owner we expect it may last beyond the 5 years.

Given he didn't add anything to sale price for any of above (including Calor) I thought it was a fair deal. (We also had an external socker + a external gas point added, but paid parts but not labour for that.). But agree, regulator every 5 years.

We also have the joy of new camping tyres next year, but theres no sign of cracking (yet) so we may hold off until end of next season for that as thats their 5 year anniversary too. (We may push to 6 years if theres no signs given the lack of use of the tyres).

I checked the gas bottle cupboard when collecting my moho from the dealers . It was empty so i asked - how about a full gas bottle before I go?...."No problem", he replied. If you don't ask you don't get.

If it’s a Ducato…..cam belt to at five year point, that’s about £700….

Maybe read what other owners think of camping tyres, personally I changed mine to M&S.

Our first motorhome was bought second hand. Before I agreed to purchase it the dealer agreed to throw in one calor bottle, which was empty. We bought the motorhome we use now from new. No mention of an offer of a gas bottle. That did not worry me because I had already fitted one refillable and one calor in the first motorhome and I just told the dealer I would be swapping them over to the new van.

We got the cost of swapping the Gaslow system including 2 x 11kgs over from our trade-in onto the new MH included in the deal. No dealer is going to loose a sale for what in reality is a few quid to them.

When vans and caravans are traded in, the dealer will remove everything left by the previous owner.
Gas bottles, water carriers , hook up leads et al, in fact anything that is not original kit.
They do not want them being sold with the van as they would then be part of the warranty.

But they can then offer them to a buyer at no cost to themselves .. but not part of the deal.. 'given as seen' so to speak ..
