Does anyone have any experience with https://www.garminworldmaps.com/ ?

I paid them €19.99 for the North Africa maps recently and the downloads all failed. I’m now out of retry attempts but their support and sales emails aren’t replying, nor are they responding to the PayPal dispute I opened when they didn’t reply initially.

I’d like the offline routable maps for Morocco 2023.

For my GPSr or Sat Nav I’d never pay for maps other than OS or OS-like maps (e.g. talky toaster).

I’m travelling and forgot the last mapping site I used for Italy but a start place could be https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin

Sorry it’s not a final answer. For years I used one OSM Garmin map site for my world travels but it went AWOL this year and I had to find a new site for Italy. 🤪

I've no experience with Garmin World maps, but as suggested, Open Street Maps are free to download and work very well.

Have you noticed that this website is not affiliated with Garmin which hints at a possible scam to me unless you have previously used the same site successfully?

The brilliant site I used to use is https://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/
In a recent change, today it redirects to a replacement service.
I haven’t used them - this is a new finding 🤷‍♂️🤞

Other than charging for a service users can, with a little effort & practice, do themselves, I think they’re using tha name “garmin” just like a “hoover” name for a product.

Edit: but there is the issue the op is in - but that could be poor service rather than an out right scam.
TL;DR avoid and use a free DIY OSM map

Looks similar to the old site with an updated - better? - UI

I think it is just poor service (and a mediocre site) but also, I now feel stupid for using the service in the first place :-)

Right! Home again.
On 02/11/2022, with my favourite mapping resource offline (#5), I used https://www.openfietsmap.nl/
From that I got a map of all Europe via the PC Basecamp compatible link here and used Basecamp to just get the Puglia area I needed for my trip.

Today, I followed the openfietsmap site's "World Wide Mapping" link and ended up at the https://garmin3.bbbike.org/ site I took screenshots of.

At BBBike.org you can straightaway select the map area you want and 'extract' it as a "gmapsupp.img" type file ready to copy to your Garmin map folder. (y)
In my example I'd rename gmapsupp.img to puglia_gmapsupp.img before putting it onto my Garmin.

There are lots of map type download options. A partial view is: -

I've gone for the Garmin Leisure type. It is routable - but ALL Garmin maps here are :) (y)
Garmin Leisure style said:
map style from freizeitkarte-osm.de, for outdoor activities. The .img file is ~30% larger than the osm/cycle file

More help on using the site for mapping extracts here but ask here too ;)

Thanks for putting this info together it's brilliant. Can I just ask once you've downloaded the gmapsup.img file is it just a case of pulling it over onto the SD card? is there a special folder i should create on the sd card for the garmin? tia

I did a loose job of describing the location.
“select the map area you want and 'extract' it as a "gmapsupp.img" type file ready to copy to your Garmin map folder.”
When your Garmin is connected via USB to a PC, the above Is better written as “…copy to your {mounted drive letter}\Garmin map folder.”

I usually rotate out maps when finished but this advice I found suggests just altering the map name means you can have several maps:
“If you want to use more than one map on your Garmin device, rename the gmapsupp.img to xxxxx.img (Do not change the .img ending)”

cracking, thanks again! dropped it across and now i have 'Maroc' available in the country list

Probably too late to help, but for anyone looking at this in the future. DO NOT buy from these jokers. We purchased the Morrocan map, the map contained roads but no place or street names - very useful when navigating through Morroco!! As you pointed out, no response when contacting their support (I lost count the number of times) which is only through email. They are NOT affiliated to Garmin, so Garmin can't/won't help when I contacted their support (I didn't even realise I hadn't purchased from Garmin at that point). Would not touch these guys with a 10 foot battle lance. Hope that helps any prospective future puchasers.
